BGC South East is currently seeking the following position:

OVERVIEW:

BGC South East is seeking an experienced and visionary Manager of Education to lead the development, coordination, and expansion of high-quality education programs focused on Reading, Writing, Numeracy, and Experiential Learning. It will also support the delivery of additional educational programs in STEM, Robotics, and skill development. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of education in BGC South East.
Reporting to the Supervisor of Education, the Manager will be involved in program development and delivery, strategic planning, and community engagement, with a specific focus on BGC’s education programs such as TruePhonics, ReadOn, Beyond Classrooms, STEM, and educational support across the after-school. This role is ideal for a passionate educator, innovator, or program lead with strong experience in designing and managing experiential learning programs for children & youth, and a track record of team leadership, operational management, and educational impact.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • A post-secondary degree in Education or a related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in program management, child & youth education, or education-related leadership roles.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum, experiential education, and inclusive programs.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a team.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and manage community outreach initiatives.
  • Experience managing budgets, tracking data, and supporting funding applications or grant reports.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence
Responsibilities

Program Development & Oversight

  • Lead the design, implementation, delivery, and continuous improvement of a wide range of educational programs (e.g., after-school programs, camps, place-based experiential learning workshops, and life skills). Responsibilities include:
  • Develop and manage program schedules, content, and curriculum, ensuring alignment with the Ontario Curriculum, BGC program standards, and general teaching and learning strategies.
  • Teach the content for different program formats and locations, including non-traditional learning environments such as community centres and museums.
  • Supporting the recruitment and training of staff and volunteers
  • Provide a safe and inclusive environment for staff, volunteers, and participants of BGC education programs and events.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, community partners, place-based experiential learning sites and classroom teachers when developing education programming. This includes ongoing communication and partnerships with participating classroom teachers.

Team Leadership & Staff Support

  • Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and ongoing professional development for Coordinators, Instructors, and Volunteers across all education programs.
  • Co-develop and facilitate staff onboarding, training sessions, and regular team meetings.
  • Co-lead staff performance management, including behaviour support coaching, incident response, and implementation of BGC’s behaviour management framework.
  • Handle day-to-day staffing issues in regards to staff calling in sick, rescheduling to ensure group ratios.
  • Manage members, staff, placement students and volunteers during programs to ensure the safety and quality of programming.

Operations & Administration

  • Manage day-to-day operations of BGC’s education programs across multiple sites, with a primary focus on TruePhonics, ReadOn, Beyond Classrooms, and after-school.
  • Engage in BGC’s strategic plan by recommending and implementing annual goals that fall within the education portfolio.
  • Coordinate scheduling and maintain adequate staffing ratios, adapting plans as needed in response to absences or program needs.
  • Implement behaviour management techniques fairly, reviewing ongoing behaviour plans with staff members to ensure the plan’s effectiveness. Support staff in creating behaviour plans effectively by BGC policies & procedures.
  • Work with BGC financial staff and the Director of Education to ensure education expenditures are kept within budget.

Strategic Growth & Partnerships

  • Support the Supervisor, Associate Director, and Director of Education in executing a strategic plan to expand educational programming, increase community impact, and achieve positive financial outcomes.
  • Collaborate with funders, partners, and local organizations to grow the education program portfolio and attract new volunteers, mentors, and funding opportunities.
  • Support with tracking program metrics, including attendance, expenses, feedback, and outcome data to support funder reporting, program evaluation, and internal decision-making.

Marketing & Outreach

  • Work in collaboration with the BGC Marketing team to promote education programs and build the BGC South East education brand.
  • Represent BGC South East in the community and at events, promoting awareness and celebrating program success stories.
  • Support BGC fundraising activities and the development of other revenue strategies.
