Who We Are
In Whitby, we are dedicated to our work, our community, and each other. We work hard, we have fun, and we celebrate our successes.
The Town of Whitby is a community in transformation that is located in the heart of Durham Region in the eastern Greater Toronto Area. Whitby’s Official Plan has been updated to establish new directions for Whitby’s planned growth and development; the protection of our natural and built environments; urban design intensification; sustainability; community improvement; and, new employment within this time frame.
The Town of Whitby combines a small town atmosphere with the sophistication and amenities of a larger urban centre. Whitby boasts two beautiful heritage downtowns, one of the finest recreational harbours with an award-winning marina, year round sports and recreation activities, parks, trails, and a robust arts and culture scene, all of which are part of the extraordinary amenities that Whitby residents enjoy every day.
Whitby has an exciting and aspiring future, with a community that is welcoming, growing and transforming. On our team, you can expect to make a difference through your work and have a direct impact on shaping our growing community. Creating an inclusive environment where employees experience job satisfaction and have rewarding careers is important to us. We live our values and foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, respect and engagement where people enjoy coming to work.
The Town of Whitby is a hybrid organization. This means staff are empowered to do their best work from various locations, as appropriate for the position.
We want to be the preferred employer for the most talented people who care about the Town of Whitby, and are excited and proud to serve our vibrant community.
Let’s grow together.
What You Will Get To Do

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Creative Communities, the Manager, Events and Tourism is responsible for leading the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that support economic growth, enhance community life, and position Whitby as a destination of choice. This role drives cultural vibrancy, municipal revenue, and meaningful partnerships within the community.
Key Responsibilities
Who You Are
You are a bold, visionary leader who is passionate about building vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable communities. With a proven track record in event management and tourism development, you are creative, energized by growth and driven by results.
You thrive in fast-paced environments and excel at navigating complex challenges with innovative thinking and strategic foresight. As a natural relationship builder, you connect easily with a wide range of stakeholders, from community leaders and elected officials to local businesses and cultural organizations.
You are a strong advocate for empowerment and collaboration. You create space for your team to thrive by providing clarity, resources, and trust. Whether working onsite, remotely, or in hybrid environments, you focus on outcomes and empower your team to deliver results.
You understand that leadership is not just a title—it’s a responsibility. You model inclusivity, trust, and accountability in everything you do, creating a team culture where everyone feels valued, supported, and inspired to bring their best.
To you, being at work is a mindset and not a location. You know leading a team working across different locations means focusing on measurable results and outcomes, not monitoring day-to-day inputs. You equip your team with the right resources, clarity, and confidence to be empowered and autonomous, and you provide them the assurance you are there with support and guidance when they need it. To you, leadership is not a title, but an action and an example. You believe the cornerstone of successful working relationships is trust and inclusivity, and you consistently model this for your team. You are focused on creating a team culture where people feel safe to bring their whole self to work, whether it is onsite, remote, or a mix of both.
