Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage processes related to the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS, management’s discussion and analysis, and/or other regulatory disclosure documents to meet the timelines for Audit Committee / Board approval. Financial statement preparation is required for the public company as well as various audited subsidiary companies. This role is also responsible for producing various consolidated management reports on a monthly basis and for ensuring compliance with internal controls by the team.
  • Develop and maintain a framework for managing risks in the company’s financial reporting processes to ensure relevant and reliable financial information for stakeholders and regulatory compliance.
  • Be involved in the research and interpretation of new IFRS pronouncements and assess their impact on the Company’s financial statements and accounting policies. Where applicable, interpret and lead the application of complex accounting standards for the Company, including writing and reviewing research and/or position papers and working with various business groups to assess underlying issues and facts.
  • Develop financial policies as required to ensure the Company complies with all areas of IFRS.
  • Coordinate and effectively communicate with the external auditors and Aecon business units on a regular basis throughout the year to assist in managing the external audit process.
  • Manage the month end close process for the head office accounting function, and coordinate the month end close process across all sectors.
  • Assist in any ad hoc analysis of monthly results.
  • Liaise with other corporate teams such as tax, budgeting and planning, and investor relations as required.
  • Prepare standalone statutory financial statements as required.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of accountants.
  • Other duties as assigned.
