About the role The Manager, Governance and Education leads a specialist team to deliver governance, education and compliance initiatives that support non‑government schools to understand and comply with Division 3, Part 7 of the Education Act 1990 (NSW). The role also oversees the development and administration of conditions on financial assistance under section 83E of the Act, ensuring conditions are appropriately drafted, implemented and complied with. This is a senior leadership opportunity to influence regulatory policy and sector practice at a system‑wide level. You will work closely with executive leaders, Ministers’ Offices and a diverse range of stakeholders to shape practical, evidence‑based solutions that strengthen governance, accountability and educational outcomes across NSW’s non‑government school sector. On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for: Leading and managing a high‑performing team to deliver governance, education and compliance initiatives and projects aligned to legislative and regulatory requirements. Driving NESA’s contribution to the development and review of regulatory policy and frameworks to support Government objectives and reforms. Overseeing the development of guidance, resources and education initiatives to support non‑government schools’ understanding of not‑for‑profit compliance under section 83C of the Act. Managing the regulatory policy and implementation of conditions on financial assistance under section 83E of the Act, including monitoring and responding to compliance issues. Leading stakeholder consultations and targeted sector engagement to support capability development, communication and compliance outcomes. Providing timely, accurate and strategic advice on legislation, policy, risks, trends and emerging issues, including high‑quality briefs, correspondence and reports for executive and Ministerial consideration. Overseeing research and analysis to inform policy options, including assessment of implications, risks and mitigation strategies. Identifying compliance trends and working with stakeholders to proactively implement solutions and process improvements. Managing project budgets and ensuring initiatives are delivered on time, within budget and to a high standard. Our ideal candidate will have: Demonstrated experience influencing, shaping and aligning organisational and regulatory outcomes in complex environments, including managing sensitive issues within tight timeframes. Extensive experience building and managing effective relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders, including those with diverse and competing perspectives. Strong capability in leading consultations and negotiations with a broad range of stakeholders to achieve agreed outcomes. Proven experience managing governance, education, regulatory or compliance‑focused initiatives or projects. Experience in managing a team. Extensive experience in building and managing effective stakeholder relationships. Essential requirements Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or demonstrated equivalent relevant professional experience.
