QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of 4 years’ college in the human services sector or equivalent academic and/or work experience;
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in the human service sector, with a minimum of 3-5 years leadership experience;
  • Experience managing people, resources, budgets, working with funding sources, and writing grants required;
  • Experience working with newcomer, immigrant women & youth;
  • Knowledgeable about newcomer trends and settlement issues;
  • Experience in working collaboratively with community partners to deliver comprehensive services;
  • Experience in managing and measuring program delivery and outcomes;
  • Experienced in policy development, procedural implementation, and training;
  • Must be able to lead from a feminist, anti-racist/anti-oppressive perspective;
  • Ability to work a schedule which may include occasional evening and weekend work;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Must provide a current Criminal Record Judicial Matters Police check or willing to obtain at own cost;
  • Must have current Emergency First Aid and CPR certificate or willing to obtain at own cost;
  • Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.

Responsibilities

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

Accountable for the management and provision of high-quality immigrant and settlement programs and services for women, youth and non-binary individuals. Ensures high quality programs are designed and delivered and oversees case management, fund reporting, budget allocation and management of staff. The role is also responsible for fostering meaningful partnership development and ensuring effective integration of services to provide coordinated community support for clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Engagement of women and gender-diverse people who are clients of YWCA Hamilton, towards active attendance within available programs in house (e.g. YWCA programming & drop-in space when available ) or support in accessing other immediate offsite resources that will accommodate their needs, (shelter, public spaces where they can sit/congregate), accompaniment to appointments, advocate on their behalf in collaboration with Supervisor to increase service access/resource connection where applicable;

  • Develops and manages the successful delivery of all aspects of Immigration & Settlement programs that reflect the YWCA mission, vision and strategic plans;
  • Ensures program design, planning, development, staffing, participant recruitment, budgeting, operations, quality assurance, stakeholder engagement, communications, and evaluation;
  • Ensures program outcomes are achieved according to set targets and quality standards; monitors programs and projects to mitigate risks, ensures compliance with policies and procedures; escalating to Director;
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop and execute programs and services that may be an asset in other areas of the organization e.g. Housing;
  • Ensures that service expectations for professional communication, documentation and recordkeeping are maintained at a high standard;
  • Manages the marketing and promotion of programs and activities;
  • Prepares reports for the Director on activities and outcomes of programs under responsibility;
  • Directly manages 9 employees including recruiting, training, payroll, monitoring and evaluating performance;
  • Provides staff with guidance and advice on employment & training and settlement & integration issues;
  • Provides oversight and guidance to gender-based violence (GBV) and 2S-LGBTQIA+ staff, ensuring trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and gender-affirming service delivery. Supports staff with case consultations, complex client situations, safety planning, and escalation management, while fostering best practices in supporting marginalized newcomer populations;
  • Oversees case management meetings and assessments, approving client intakes and terminations;
  • Identifies and prioritizes challenges; escalates as required;
  • Effectively manages client and staff conflict and escalations;
  • Assists Director in managing annual departmental budget from developing, forecasting, monitoring and submitting project budgets;
  • Investigates and cultivates opportunities for additional funding sources (grants) and community programs (e.g. tax clinics, establishing partnerships with ethnic communities and cultural association) as required;
  • Works collaboratively with funding bodies and service delivery partners;
  • Prepares reports and presentations for stakeholders and funders;
  • In collaboration with the Director seek out opportunities for external fund development and assist with proposal writing,
  • Communicates, consults, educates and influences stakeholders (e.g. funders/sponsors, employers);
  • Represents the YWCA Hamilton and always maintains outstanding public relations skills and a professional image in the community;
  • Represents the YWCA Hamilton at community events and on relevant committees; often in an advisory role;
  • Nurtures and forms meaningful internal and external working relationships and partnerships;
  • Maintains high level of confidentiality when working with sensitive and personal client disclosures, employee information and contract information;
  • Knowledge and understanding of factors influencing different social groups, particularly women, GBV survivors, 2S-LGBTQIA+ youth, and newcomers;
  • Demonstrates and models strong leadership behaviours as a member of the management team;
  • Stays current on emerging trends, leading practices and legislation;
  • Fosters a safe and healthy work environment; ensures employees comply with health and safety standards that meet or exceed legislated requirements;
  • Participate and provide mandatory organizational and departmental trainings and meetings.
