GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE The position has overall responsibility for Dole’s income tax compliance function and managing federal and state tax audits. This includes being responsible for determining all of the company’s income tax filing requirements, coordinating data collection with all domestic divisions and preparation and review of all federal and state income tax returns and quarterly estimated tax payment filings. This position is also responsible for managing federal and state tax audits and provides assistance in the areas of financial reporting for income taxes (tax provision). In addition, this position is heavily involved in the domestic tax provision which will roll into the global provision prepared/coordinated by the Director, Tax Accounting MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION * Overall responsibility for preparation and timely filing of U.S. federal and applicable state income tax returns. * Oversight of the tax returns for the company’s Canadian and Hong Kong subsidiaries. * Evaluation of the company’s nexus within a particular state to determine its income tax status. * Responsible for managing federal, state and employment tax audits and the Appeals process, handling all IRS information document requests, successfully defending filing positions and negotiating favorable resolutions of proposed deficiencies. * Manage sales & use,and property tax outsourcing engagement. Monitor changes in ownership of domestic and foreign entities and accumulate information necessary to insure proper disclosure of such changes to tax authorities. * Periodically review the organization structure to initiate liquidation/merger/dissolution of inactive entities * Responsible for domestic federal and state tax research and planning * Responsible for identifying domestic federal and state tax planning opportunities and potential exposures. * Responsible for assisting the Director of Tax Accounting with the preparation and review of the company’s quarterly and annual tax provision. Preparation of the quarterly tax provision for the US, including forecasted cash flows, to be included with the global tax provision. * Working closely with the International Tax Manager on quarterly tax provision and the US impacts of CFC transactions. * Assist the VP, Tax with special projects as the need arises. JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skill And Experience Requirements) * 5+ years of corporate tax experience and hands on experience with federal and state income tax returns, tax controversy matters and working knowledge of tax provisions. * Proficiency in tax software applications and Microsoft applications. Dole uses Onesource tax preparation software. * Must be highly organized and detail oriented, with ability to prioritize, multitask, juggle workload efficiently, and meet deadlines. * Must have the ability to think strategically and to effectively and methodically drive improvements and change. * Must be self-motivated for continual learning EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION * Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Master’s Degree in Taxation preferred. * CPA License Preferred PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift (including overhead) and/or up to 15 lbs. EMPLOYEE MANAGEMENT * (1) Direct report  TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS * The normal hours of work will be 8:30 am to 5.30 pm, Monday through Friday, but due to the nature of the business, these hours and days may vary, and the role requires the employee to be flexible as the position demands.  * Must have the ability to travel occasionally both domestic and international.
