Description

We are looking for an International Payroll Manager to professionalize and scale our payroll operations across Europe. In this key role, you will lead the transformation of our payroll function into a data-driven, compliant, and employee-centric operation that aligns with Basic-Fit’s rapid international growth.
Are you excited by the opportunity to build and manage payroll operations for thousands of employees across six European countries? Do you bring structure to complexity, thrive in fast-growing environments, and want to make an impact on our employee experience? Then read on!
This Is What Your Role Looks Like
As our International Payroll Manager, you’ll ensure the accurate, compliant, and timely processing of salaries for over 9,000 employees in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain, and Germany. You’ll oversee a growing team of local and outsourced payroll specialists and be responsible for standardizing and automating our payroll processes. This includes managing vendor performance, ensuring compliance with local legislation, and creating high-quality processes that serve Finance, HR, and business operations.
You’ll play a vital role in enhancing the employee experience by making payroll seamless and reliable, no matter the country or contract type. We are in the midst of a payroll transformation program to lift the payroll operating model to the next level, implementing a global payroll system and moving from outsourced operating models to inhouse in multiple countries.
You will be based at our headquarters in Hoofddorp, the Netherlands, and will report to the Finance Director, Adriaan Bos.

Your responsibilities:

  • Manage, develop, and coach the international payroll team (15 - 20 FTE + external partners)
  • Design and lead the execution of our international payroll strategy, focusing on accuracy, compliance, and automation
  • Ensure timely and compliant payroll processing in all operating countries, in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external providers
  • Steer the global payroll program, coordinating cross-functional efforts to consolidate local systems into a single unified global payroll platform.
  • Lead the vendor management and SLA tracking of payroll partners and software solutions
  • Partner with HR, Legal, and Finance to streamline end-to-end processes related to contracts, tax, pensions, and reporting
  • Standardize payroll processes and documentation, and reduce manual interventions through automation
  • Monitor local compliance and legislative changes, and translate these into process and system updates
  • Support audit and control activities and ensure data integrity across payroll systems
  • Contribute to our employee experience strategy by ensuring high-quality service and responsiveness on all payroll matters

Who Are You?
You are a structured, tech-savvy payroll expert who is eager to grow in impact and scope. You thrive in a fast-changing international environment and love to get the details right—without losing sight of the bigger picture.

Additionally, we’re looking for someone who is:

  • Proven experience managing payroll across multiple countries, ideally in an international company with insourced models
  • Solid understanding of European payroll legislation and compliance requirements
  • Experience with payroll systems and data integrations (e.g. Strada, Workday, SAP)
  • A proactive, analytical mindset and bias for action
  • Ability to manage stakeholders in Finance, HR, and Operations
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Fluent in English; French or Dutch is a strong plus
