Job Description Manages operational aspects of designated laboratory area to ensure quality service and outcomes. Actively promotes a lean work culture by performing value-stream manager duties to encourage consistent use of lean principles and processes, including continually seeking work process improvements. Collaborates with leadership team, providing administrative and technical support as required. Recognizes necessity of staff to own motivation, morale, performance, and professional development. Actively encourages performance and behavior consistent with a commitment to the lab’s and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s mission, goals, and values by providing materials and processes necessary to be successful.
Experience
5 years of clinical laboratory experience in a high complexity laboratory
2 years of supervisory or managerial experience
Preferred Qualifications
8 years of clinical laboratory experience
Education
Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution or Bachelor of Science in Histology or Cytotechnology
Certification Summary
Certification as a Medical Technologist (ASCP or equivalent) or Histotechnologist (ASCP)
Histotechnologist certification required for Histology/AP Manager

Job Responsibilities
Manages and develops overall operations for designated areas of responsibility, ensuring standard of care is consistent.
Aligns daily work with individual, section, departmental, and organizational goals, and objectives.
Resolves technical and personnel problems collaboratively and incorporates shared decision making as situations allow.
Investigates and documents incidents, complaints, and other adverse situations, using tools to seek root cause to seek solutions and improvements rather than assign blame.
Coordinates and integrates interdepartmental and intradepartmental services, facilitating integration where feasible.
Establishes and maintains liaison with organizational leaders and other healthcare professionals to provide continuum of care.
Develops, implements, and maintains policies and procedures that guide and support provision of services while meeting all regulatory requirements.
Performs financial planning and budget development for designated departments in compliance with system fiscal goals and guidelines.
Participates in hiring and developing staff.
Coaches team members and clarifies performance expectations for each.
Provides timely feedback in a positive manner that supports staff success and promotes ownership and commitment.
Completes annual performance evaluations.
Actively promotes a lean culture by performing duties to promote an understanding and consistent use of lean principals and processes.
Performs standard work of a value-stream manager, including metric reviews, audits, Gemba walks, standard work, Kanban, and idea board.
Responsible for all aspects of managing and leading a team including: interviewing, hiring, training, developing, directing work and processes, managing performance, recognizing, and rewarding employees.
Mentor team members to encourage personal and professional growth.
Encourage ongoing skill development by providing opportunities for continued education.
