QUALIFICATIONS:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Knowledge of operational management and leadership concepts practices including program/service delivery models, policy development, planning, budgeting, performance measurement management, and human resources
  • Knowledge of labour relations and human resources program design, delivery, assessment, and evaluation methodologies, processes, and practices
  • Knowledge of relevant governing legislation, collective agreements, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of office as well as the broader university academic units, departments, and divisions
  • Knowledge of office productivity software and databases, internet browsers and search engines, discipline-specific software, enterprise software, and technology devices
  • Knowledge of cultural competency and diversity
  • Knowledge is used to lead labour relations academic unit

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial relations or human resources
  • CHRP or Masters in Labour Relations will be preferred
  • Minimum of seven years of previous labour relations and human resources program and service experience
  • Four years of management and leadership experience
Responsibilities

Responsible to oversee day-to-day delivery of professional services labour relations operations and to administer the professional services labour relations program and services. This includes building and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with union leadership for four professional services unions, providing collective agreement interpretation and contract negotiation support, and managing grievances including mediation and arbitration preparation and support. This position is key in fostering positive relationships between employees and management by supporting employee issues through coaching and guiding managers around employee discussions and documentation regarding the employment relationship. Finally, this position supports the ongoing professional development of managers by conducting training sessions and developing resources for management and staff on labour relations topics. It is critical that this work is developed and maintained with a full alignment with the University’s objectives and goals in the areas of Indigenous Initiatives and Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility.
