Description
The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a dedicated museum that showcases the exquisite artefacts from Palace Museum’s collections and collaborates with other museums in research, exhibitions, education and public programmes. The museum comprises 7 800 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museum’s collections of paintings, calligraphy, antiquities and historical objects, as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilisations. You will be responsible for: developing and implementing initiatives that engage a wide range of community groups with the Museum’s exhibitions, collections, and values; recruiting, training and managing volunteers and docents, ensuring high standards of service and devising strategies to motivate, recognise, and retain them; collaborating with internal teams and departments to ensure smooth operations for stakeholder visits and guided tours; conducting outreach to underserved communities to promote equitable access to the Museum’s resources and programmes; building and maintaining strong partnerships with community organisations, museums, arts and cultural institutions, educational bodies, and creative entrepreneurs to foster sustainable relationships; working closely with curatorial, learning, and design teams to develop interpretive materials—such as guides and interactive elements—that enhance accessibility and relevance for diverse audiences; planning, organising, and delivering community-centred events, including but not limited to in-museum activities for community groups, outreach activities, performances, and festivals; supporting the preparation of grant proposals and sponsorship applications to secure funding for community engagement initiatives; and performing any duties from time to time as reasonably as assigned by HKPM. You should: possess a recognised university degree, preferably a Master’s in education, art education, museum studies, history, arts, design, cultural management, or a related discipline; have a minimum of 8 years’ experience managing sizeable teams with varied responsibilities in learning, interpretation, or public engagement within the arts, cultural, or educational sectors; have proven ability to engage effectively with a broad spectrum of audiences; have strong leadership, interpersonal, negotiation, and influencing skills; demonstrate expertise in developing educational content and resources; have up-to-date knowledge of best practices, emerging theories, and methodologies in museum learning and community engagement; have familiarity with digital platforms and technologies that support discovery and learning, both online and on-site; have understanding of the museum and education landscape in Hong Kong and Asia is an advantage; and be proficient in written and spoken English and Chinese; knowledge of Cantonese and Putonghua is desirable.
