This is an opportunity to combine operational leadership, people development, and strategic influence in a role where your work directly supports national resilience and public health outcomes. Provide day‑to‑day leadership for NZMAT, ensuring effective delivery of clinical and non‑clinical assistance, operational support, and policy advice. Lead team capability, performance, and development, fostering a collaborative, high‑performing culture across NZMAT and wider Ministry partnerships. Oversee core operations and emergency response, offering confident leadership during deployments and maintaining readiness for high‑pressure situations. Drive strategic initiatives and major work programmes, ensuring alignment with Ministry and Government priorities, strong planning, and clear reporting on outcomes. Strengthen operational readiness and continuous improvement, ensuring NZMAT systems, processes, and training remain fit‑for‑purpose and deployment‑ready at all times. Ko ngā pūkenga ōu - What you’ll bring A relevant tertiary qualification and/or extensive experience in health, emergency management, or a related field. A solid understanding of emergency management and health system operations, with the ability to apply recognised planning tools and methodologies. Strong operational leadership capability, confident in managing both routine activities and high‑pressure emergency response situations. Proven strategic planning and delivery experience, overseeing complex projects and programmes aligned to Ministry and Government priorities. A proactive, solutions‑focused approach to risk, able to identify emerging issues early and implement effective mitigation strategies. Demonstrated ability to lead and grow high‑performing teams, including talent development, succession planning, coaching, and navigating complexity and change with resilience.
