Description:

We are hiring for a community investment firm that specializes in affordable multifamily housing, assisted living communities, and mixed-use/mixed-income real estate projects in the Greater Washington, D.C. area. As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead our project accounting operations and contribute to the financial management of our development projects.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Accounting Manager will lead financial operations, ensure compliance, and optimize processes. Working with senior leadership, they will oversee project accounting from inception to completion. This role requires strategic thinking, strong technical skills, and leadership in a fast-paced environment.

QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
  • 8-15+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2+ years in commercial real estate or general contracting.
  • Strong understanding of real estate accounting, financial reporting, and cash flow management.
  • Experience with partnership accounting and taxation is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting software; experience with NetSuite is preferred.

  • Self-Starter & Adaptability: Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, evolving environment while wearing multiple hats.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all project accounting functions, including accounts payable (A/P), accounts receivable (A/R), reconciliations, financial reporting, and invoice approvals.
  • Review profit & loss (P&L) statements and balance sheets across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Oversee cash flow management for development projects, tracking funding sources and project expenditures.
  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, ensuring compliance with all funding and regulatory requirements.
