Description Summary The Manager of Grassroots and State Engagement is responsible for structuring and executing NCGA’s grassroots advocacy efforts while working with state partners to improve their organizational influence and impact in advocacy. Duties include helping craft grassroots campaigns, organizing leadership and advocacy training, co-creating advocacy messaging on key policy priorities, and helping raise the corn industry’s profile in Washington, DC. The Manager plays a unique role helping state partners fully tap into the capabilities and resources offered by NCGA, including advocacy, communications, development, and outreach to boost their political footprint. Reports to: NCGA Director, Grassroots and Political Strategy Requirements Duties and Responsibilities Grassroots Advocacy Foster grower activism and ensure close working relationships with state corn offices on grassroots advocacy. Successfully execute online grassroots advocacy campaigns and increase campaign participation. Work closely with public policy staff and subject matter experts to craft grassroots calls to action, translating complex policy issues into digestible grassroots communication materials. Encourage state partners to make grassroots activism central to membership, communications, and training efforts nationally and within member states. Lead grassroots training for association members and directors as necessary. Maintain grassroots database and share campaign benchmarking results with state and national staff. Work alongside policy and communications staff to create innovative advocacy strategies. State Engagement Work with state staff to assess needs and recommend potential solutions, with a specific focus on advocacy. Manage projects and requests from state partners to enhance collaboration among NCGA staff and teams. Create original content, when necessary, such as one-pagers, briefing material, and project proposals. Schedule meetings with Congressional offices and other government agencies along with managing and maintaining schedules for state partners. Expand NCGA’s relationship matrix in DC through helping develop relationships with Congressional offices and staff who represent states and districts outside of the traditional corn belt. Support state staff in planning and execution of association meetings and events, including traveling to the state to participate in-person. Manage NCGA’s Sister State program, including developing innovative opportunities for states to support one another. Leadership Development Lead leadership development efforts in support of NCGA and states, including overseeing program curriculum, solicitation of candidates, and production of leadership publications, articles, and updates. Serve as lead staff for leadership programs. Work hand-in-glove with NCGA headquarters staff and industry partners to host NCGA leadership programs. Qualifications and Skills Experience in political advocacy, political campaigns, or government. Capitol Hill or state capitol experience preferred. Experience in leading and facilitating meetings and/or training programs. Willingness to manage a variety of projects and develop a diverse range of skills. Ability to prioritize work assignments, meet deadlines, remain flexible, and implement feedback from team members. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Exceptional attention to detail and professionalism. Experience with online advocacy platforms is highly desired. Ability to work with all levels of staff and external stakeholders. Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Communications, or related field Two to four years of professional experience Travel Requires travel up to 10-15%.
