Job Details Job Location: Jackson, WY 83001 Position Type: Full Time Education Level: BSN Job Shift: Day Job Category: Nursing Jobs Job Summary Provides leadership, administrative direction, budget management and staffing for the patient care delivered in obstetrics and nursery according to the Scope of Services for Obstetrics. Works with hospital staff and physicians to provide coordinated, safe, quality care to the obstetrical patient and newborn. Is responsible for the day to day operations of OB. General management duties include, staffing, PI, education, performance, participation on hospital committees. Communicates organizational objectives to staff, monitors revenues and expenses including salary and capitol budget. Provides clinical direction for nursing personnel. Assures staff competency and coordinates the education and orientation of staff. Acts as clinical resource when census or acuity require. Responsible for practicing and ensuring adherence to SJH’s Corporate Compliance Program and oversees Performance Improvement activities. Provides age and developmentally appropriate direct clinical care to newborns, adolescent, and adult populations. Essential Functions 1. Staffing and Supervision · Supervises all nursing activities related to patient care and serves as a clinical resource to the staff. · Evaluates patient care through assessment, planning, intervention, re-evaluation, written documentation. Observation and comparison to established standards of care and in accordance with DNV standards. State and federal regulations. · Responsible for the development of current policies and procedures with associated departments to provide operational guidelines for efficient and safe patient care. Assures that policies and procedures are clearly communicated to staff and the policies are appropriately implemented. · Provides leadership to promote a culture of patient safety with the department. · Interviews and hires qualified nursing staff, utilizing available resources. Evaluates new employee unit-based orientation program and revises as necessary. · Evaluates and documents performance of employees; giving feedback and coaching on an on-going basis. Participates in the corrective action process as appropriate to address and document employee performance in a timely manner. Implements SJH’s corrective action plan. · Communicates organization and departmental goals and objectives to staff. Plans and conducts regular staff meetings. · Identifies education needs of department staff. Participates in development of educational programs for staff. Ensures competency of staff is assessed, demonstrated and validated both annually and on an on-going basis. · Develops and implements special projects appropriate to the unit; for example, computer implementation, new equipment, etc. 2. Financial Management · Plans for and maintains an adequate number of competent staff to provide for the delivery of safe patient care considering patient acuity, census and staff mix. Develops and maintains a current staffing plan for the department. · Monitors revenues and expenses including salaries on a monthly basis. Makes adjustments as needed. Plans, maintains, and monitors capital budget with input from CNO and CFO. Ensures cost effective quality patient care. 3. Performance Improvement, Customer Service and Risk Management · Establishes, plans, prioritizes and manages the Performance Improvement process for the department. Implements and measures outcomes; collects and analyzes aggregate data and takes action as needed. Utilizes data from customer service surveys, self-assessment tools, event reports, as a basis for Performance Improvement. Implements SJH’s organizational Performance Improvement plan. · Utilizes risk management knowledge to identify high risk situations. Investigates event reports and initiates appropriate, timely interventions to address the event. Communicates follow-up information with staff, risk manager, CNO, medical staff and patients as appropriate. · Empowers staff to influence care at the bedside by identifying problems, coaching and utilizing the problem resolution process. · Supports and promotes SJH’s Purpose, Vision and Values to the staff. Adheres to and practices the SJH Corporate Compliance program and HIPAA compliance. 4. Leadership Coordination · Attends unit medical staff meetings and interdisciplinary committee meetings. Communicates with medical staff to problem solve, resolve conflicts and issues in a collaborative manner. · Promotes and role models collaborative interactions between medical staff and nursing personnel. · Plans, promotes and attends interdisciplinary patient care conferences as needed. Participates and actively promotes case management on the unit. · Promotes intra- and interdepartmental communication in a positive and respectful manner. Participates in interdisciplinary quality of care and service excellence initiatives, Job Requirements Minimum Education Required: ASN Preferred: BSN Minimum Work Experience Required: At least 5 years RN experience. Demonstrated leadership skills with excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong computer skills. Good customer service and interpersonal skills. Preferred: 2 years of clinical experience in a specialty area including experience as a charge nurse, assistant head nurse or manager. Required Licenses: Current RN license with the authority to practice in the State of Wyoming, BLS and NRP required at the time of hire. Functional Demands Working Conditions: Hospital obstetrical unit with nursery. Frequent stressful situations. Must be on-site at the SJH campus or other facilities to fulfill the responsibilities of this role. Physical Requirements: 75% of the time standing and walking, irregular hours, meals and breaks. Must possess sight and hearing senses to meet the job requirements. Intermittent computer use. Must possess the ability to lift, push, pull and move patients, equipment and supplies. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. 2 to 4 hours of computer use. Direct Reports: OB Unit Staff Reports to: Director of Nursing Internal and External Contacts: All hospital staff, medical staff, patients and families, community members and community agencies, visitors and vendors.
