Summary of responsibilities
The Manager of Pharmacy will be responsible for the provision of high-quality service in pharmacy, and related services, i.e., medication reconciliation. The Manager of Pharmacy will also collaborate with the Cancer Centre leads at the Ottawa Hospital to provide leadership in the chemotherapy program

General Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy department to ensure the safe delivery of quality patient care.
  • Builds and maintains a strong and qualified team that responds to the needs of patients, hospital departments, and physicians by mentoring, coaching and educating employees in the department and hospital.
  • Creates an environment that promotes continuous improvement by setting expectations, empowering staff, sharing and spreading ideas, recognizing and rewarding etc.
  • Co-ordinates with other departments to ensure the patients, staff and physicians are receiving the services and information that are required for the smooth and safe provision of care through communication, process review, change management and lean initiatives that will improve patient safety and staff satisfaction.
  • Manages operational risk and identifies and communicates areas of risk that are beyond the control of the incumbent to mitigate.

Requirements of the job

  • Undergraduate Degree in Pharmacy or in Health Sciences field.
  • Registered with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
  • Minimum 5 years of operational or strategic management experience in health care, preferably hospital pharmacy related
  • Knowledge of hospital operations
  • Strong leadership Skills
  • Understanding of lean principles and practices
  • Understanding of pharmacy information systems, drug distribution models, and smart pump technology
  • Human resource management skills
  • Change management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of regional chemotherapy program
