Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work at Canadian Blood Services’ 1800 Alta Vista Dr, Ottawa ON or 777 William Ave, Winnipeg, MB location based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 80% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

DESIRED EDUCATION AND SKILLS

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering or closely related field is required.
  • Certification in Lean manufacturing or related field.
  • 10 years within a manufacturing or pharmaceutical environment with at least 5 years of Lean/Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement Engineering experience.
  • Proven experience implementing continuous improvement strategies on the shop floor, combined with the ability to explain in layman’s terms to front line staff.
  • Experience facilitating and implementing change management methodologies.
  • Experience with waste reduction, standardized work, one-piece flow, just in time production, 5S, trying to keep WIP to a minimum, and inventory reduction.
  • Advanced process analysis and design expertise.
  • Must be conscientious and maintain confidentiality in daily operations.
  • Requires effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.
  • Strong Project Management skills are required.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Experience with directing and delegating to cross-functional continuous improvement project team members.
  • Experience with incorporating adult learning principles is an asset.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular, Full-time Manager, Operational Excellence to join our dynamic Operational Excellence team.
The Operational Excellence team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by empowering our employees to improve their own processes, so that problems can be easily surfaced and solved for good.
In this role, you will be responsible for implementing continuous improvement principles and proven best practices. This work will occur with staff and management and includes workplace organization, material and information flow, value stream mapping, materials control, throughput leveling and improved customer service.
You will also facilitate, lead and present process improvement workshops and kaizen events; develop, present, and actively promote continuous improvement activities; lead efforts to reduce cost, improve efficiency to meet planned objectives and provide scorecard reporting of continuous improvement activities and progress.
