Job Summary Optical Sensors and Metrology (OSM) is part of the Advanced Technology Segment of Nordson Corporation. OSM designs and builds sensors and systems that solve problems in the semi-conductor and electronics manufacturing industries. Our Wafersense product line is used in nearly every SemiConductor fab in the world to configure and maintain semiconductor tools. Our 3D sensor product line is used in electronics manufacturing lines across the globe. The device you are using to read this notice, very likely, contains components inspected by our sensors. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities The Opto-Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for managing our team of mechanical engineers and optical engineers, and their work. We expect our managers to be technical contributors and participate in the development process. The manager oversees all our opto-mechanical design processes and ensures they are being followed. They prioritize workloads across multiple product lines and project managers, and ensure all stakeholders are aware of the prioritization calls being made. Project Implementation: Design: Responsible for creative designs that are on time, manufacturable, cost-effective, and reliable. Deliverables include specifications, designs, product documentation, records of inventions and design reviews. Test: Responsible for thorough testing of product design. Deliverables are test plans, reviews and results. Manufacturability: Responsible for providing product designs compatible with a lean manufacturing process. Deliverables include being an active participant in the Manufacturing Process Review (MPR) and timely follow-up of the resulting actions. Project management: Personally responsible for maintaining project design timelines and vigorously promoting ideas to improve timelines. Deliverables are up-to-date task lists, estimations (short and long term), communication, presentations and tracking. Product Support: Active support of manufacturing and customers by providing timely responses to production and field requests. Support product quality improvement by leading and/or supporting all the opto-mechanical 8D quality improvement initiatives. Technical Leadership: Stay aware of division goals and ensure that priorities are communicated that drive these goals. Lead and/or support continuous process development and improvement. Responsible for continuously improving engineering and personal skill sets by staying educated in current developments in engineering materials, processes, and tools. Coach and mentor staff to improve their design, test, reliability, quality, and leadership skills. Support users to make them efficient in our CAD tools. Ensure CAD tools are maintained Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Optical Engineering, or related discipline. 10+ years of product design experience, and working with production. Working knowledge of precision engineering, tolerancing, thermal analysis, exact constraint design, and other fundamental mechanical engineering concepts. Demonstrated proficiency in Creo and/or SolidWorks Knowledge/experience testing precision optical systems utilizing typical optical alignment tools. Knowledge/experience of design for reliability for precision systems and related processes. Knowledge/experience of design for manufacturing, manufacturing equipment, and assembly of precision optical assemblies Knowledge/experience of basic project management techniques, estimation, identification of critical path, and tracking of tasks Working Conditions On‑site presence required Occasional travel to suppliers, manufacturing sites, or customer locations (
