Job Overview
We are seeking a Payroll Manager to lead a Payroll Operations team that drives process optimization and builds relationships with leaders across the enterprise to ensure the team is positioned to provide timely and accurate pay, from multiple inputs and incentive programs. This role will collaborate with various groups to accomplish the broader organization’s goals of removing customer pain points, continuously improving service, and delivering quality results.
* This is a hybrid role (3 days/week in the office) and is based in Overland Park, KS *

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent job experience
  • 4-7 years experience in HR, Payroll, or Operations-related role
  • 2-4 years experience coaching, developing, managing direct reports
  • Experience supporting large organizations (20,000+)
  • Experience with Workday, UKG Pro, Kronos, ADP, Power BI
  • Multi-state tax experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience using AI driven tools and technologies such as CoPilot and ChatGPT
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) (Preferred)
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

Responsibilities
  • Drive extraordinary customer service through best practice in process, communication, quality of work and efficiency. Equip team members to win customers through operational excellence. Determine, communicate, and maintain service level agreements. Take ownership of process improvement and optimize work flows to deliver exceptional service to customers and partners, and to bring automation and efficiency. Use HR Business Consultants, internal and external network, and other resources to learn of and evaluate industry best practices, and implement when feasible and applicable. Solve business problems through understanding, and creative problem solving.
  • Lead a team who process and support Payroll. This team also provides subject matter expertise, tactical support, and consulting to partners on projects and initiatives ranging from small to large. Delegate operational work to team, and hold team members accountable for results using individual and team performance metrics, as well as partner feedback. Set performance goals that connect enterprise goals into clear team objectives and concrete individual goals. Proactively and consistently communicate expectations to staff by conducting one/ones, trainings, leading team meetings or other avenues for communication and team building.
  • Provide career development opportunities that address leadership, technical, and process optimization skills across the team. Create stretch assignments that align to business objectives, and assign them to team members according to identified capabilities and potential, or to develop areas of opportunity.
  • Manage resources to determine proper staffing levels and hardware/software needs, and adjust, or advocate for new resources, according to business needs. Tactically this includes hiring, onboarding, performance management, compensation review, and bonus planning.
  • Monitor and enforce pay compliance according to federal, state and local jurisdictions. Track changes to regulations and ensure processes are updated accordingly, and that systems are updated by using technical support teams.
  • Build relationships across the enterprise and collaborate closely with HR Operations, HR Business Partners, Commissions, Compensation, Accounting, Benefits, and other groups to ensure the team is positioned to provide support to the business.
  • Operate as an active member of the HR Operations Leadership team, informally providing leadership to team members across the department and formally supporting department goals and initiatives.
  • Also responsible for other work as assigned by business management as needed.
