The SMA (www.sma.sk.ca) is a voluntary, member-based, professional association for physicians, medical students and residents in the province and it is the provincial chapter of the Canadian Medical Association. As the trusted voice of Saskatchewan’s 2,600 practicing physicians, the SMA negotiates for and on behalf of our doctors; supports the educational, professional, economic and personal well-being of physicians; and advocates for a high-quality and patient-centred, health-care system.
We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time, permanent Manager, Primary Care Innovation Program to join our growing team! This position is responsible for managing a $10M program supporting physician-led team-based care in Saskatchewan. This includes managing the SMA Innovation Fund team, the Oversight Committee of health partners, and the operations of a multi-organizational team. This role ensures the program operates effectively, meets its goals, and continues to evolve and improve. The manager provides leadership to a growing SMA team responsible for delivering the program’s operations, financial processes, and external engagement activities. The manager contributes to broader physician leadership development and system transformation efforts in primary care.
This position is based on-site at our office in Saskatoon, SK, with a voluntary hybrid work option subject to approval under our Hybrid Work Arrangement policy.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in health administration, human resources, business administration, education or a related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A postgraduate degree (Master’s) is considered an asset.
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership and team management experience.
  • Strong track record of leading teams, developing people, and delivering complex programs or projects.
  • Proficiency with standard digital tools and collaboration platforms.
  • Experience with project management or change management methodologies an asset.
  • Growth mindset and commitment to professional development.
  • Healthcare or public sector experience an asset but not required.
Responsibilities
  • In collaboration with the Director, manage communication of the Innovation Fund program’s strategic direction, inspiring and supporting the team to deliver the program’s goals.
  • Provide operational oversight for program outcomes, ensuring that operational and financial processes are functioning effectively with the support of specialized team members.
  • Engage physician leaders in co-production of the Innovation Fund and primary care renewal work.
  • Manage the work of the Innovation Fund Oversight Committee, including the engagement and preparation of the co-chairpersons.
  • Manage the work of the Innovation Fund Operations group and coordinate cross-organizational management between SMA, SHA, HQC, and MOH.
  • Oversee the work of the Innovation Fund cross-organizational clinic support teams.
  • Inform and support the SMA representatives on key provincial committees related to the Innovation Fund and Patient’s Medical Home initiatives, supported by administrative and policy staff.
  • Maintain relationships with key partners (e.g., Ministry of Health, SHA, HQC, SCFP, CMA, PTMAs), representing SMA interests and contributing to collaborative problem-solving.
  • Coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of program outcomes in collaboration with analysts and evaluation experts, making recommendations for ongoing program refinement and expansion.
  • Ensure physician clinics get access to change management, team development and leadership development expertise, as required. External experts or partners will support content delivery.
  • Provide leadership to SMA direct reports through delegation, coaching, mentoring, skill development, and performance management, ensuring the team is well-supported to deliver their responsibilities.\
  • Collaborate with other SMA teams (e.g., Economics, EMR, IT, Accounting, Communications) to ensure alignment of strategies and programs.
  • Collaborate with other SMA committees/boards (e.g., Economics Committee, EMR Co-Management Committee, Family Medicine Board) to ensure alignment of strategies and programs.
  • Provide input to broader SMA planning processes and ensure that the Innovation Fund program and primary care transformation efforts contribute meaningfully to SMA’s strategic objectives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director.
