Job Description
Reporting to the Director, Customer Access and Project Engineering, the Manager, Project Engineering will lead a team responsible for delivering engineering work products that support both customer and system projects within the AESO’s Connection Process. This includes validating project data, preparing functional specifications, and ensuring all technical deliverables are completed accurately, on time, and in alignment with AESO standards and regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will bring a broad base of technical knowledge, including substation design, equipment specification, protection and controls, telecom, modelling, metering, cost benchmarking, and ISO rules. This expertise will be applied to guide and support the team in addressing complex engineering challenges, developing high-quality outputs, and strengthening the technical foundation of the group.
Collaboration is a key aspect of the role. The Manager, Project Engineering will work closely with AESO Project Managers and other internal groups, including system planning, forecasting, regulatory services, and project management, to enable effective decision-making and seamless project delivery. Externally, the role will engage with Transmission and Distribution Facility Owners, generator developers, and large load customers to ensure alignment and support throughout the connection process.
In addition to technical and project delivery responsibilities, the manager will focus on team leadership and development. By providing mentorship, training, and feedback, the Manager, Project Engineering will foster continuous improvement, build technical strength, and ensure the team contributes effectively to the successful delivery of projects that advance Alberta’s electricity system.
