Description

Definity is the parent company to some of Canada’s most long-standing and innovative insurance brands, including Economical Insurance, Sonnet Insurance, Family Insurance Solutions, and Petline Insurance. Our ambition is to be one of Canada’s leading and most innovative property and casualty insurers. We can’t do that without our people, so we embrace and encourage a culture that’s collaborative, ambitious, rewarding, and empowering.
We offer a flexible, hybrid work experience where employees work from the office and virtually depending on the type of work they are doing and who they are working with. Bring your true self and be a part of our journey. It’s better here.

ARE YOU OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE?

Definity is at a pivotal moment in our corporate journey, with the planned acquisition of Travelers Canada marking a new chapter in our evolution as a Canadian success story. As we evolve our corporate narrative to reflect this ambition, we’re seeking a strategic and creative Public and Media Relations Manager to help shape how our story is told.
Reporting to the AVP, Corporate Communication, you’ll lead media relations, thought leadership, and issues management, while analyzing performance to refine future focus. This role is ideal for a seasoned communications professional—preferably with financial services experience—who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is passionate about building brand reputation through compelling storytelling.
This position is based in Waterloo, ON or Toronto, ON, with a hybrid work model (three days per week in office) and occasional travel between locations for team collaboration.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • 8+ years of progressive communications experience, ideally in financial services or insurance
  • Strategic understanding of public relations, reputation, and issues management
  • Experience mitigating crisis communication scenarios
  • Proven ability to simplify complex topics and craft engaging narratives
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills
  • Agency management experience with an understanding of how to best balance insourcing and outsourcing
  • Familiarity with media monitoring and analytics tools
  • Experience leveraging generative AI to drive efficiency, scale storytelling, and support innovation in communications is a strong asset
  • Experience working with French-language media or colleagues in Quebec, and bilingualism (English/French) is a strong asset

EDUCATION

  • University degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or Business
  • Post-graduate certification in a related discipline is an asset
    Salary Range : $77,100 - $142,000
Interested in this role, but don’t meet every requirement? We encourage you to apply! We know from experience that a candidate doesn’t need 100% of the qualifications listed to bring incredible value to our team. We’re actively seeking diverse backgrounds and perspectives to help us make insurance better. At Definity, inclusion, diversity, and equity aren’t just “nice to have” — they’re essential to our success.
