At Meta, we develop novel algorithms and modeling approaches at the intersection of the physical world and computer science. By integrating physical science into our Data Center technology and collaborating with Data Scientists and Engineering teams, we create innovative solutions to challenges across Meta’s infrastructure and Global Data Centers. This role is part of our Infrastructure Data Center (IDC) organization focused on areas including Data Centers Design & Operations, Sustainability, Energy, Mapping and more with opportunities ranging from the global level to the nanoscale. Applied research topics are business-driven problems that are identified and evaluated through close collaboration and embedding with operational engineering and business teams. We are seeking a leader with proven technical expertise to manage our Physical Modeling team in IDC, driving the development and scaling of modeling into core functionalities that will be integrated with our future Infrastructure and the broader company. Responsibilities Grow and lead physics-based and digital modeling as a core functionality within our Data Centers Lead your team as a highly technical and an effective people manager Lead teams that deliver on multiple projects of increasing dependencies in an ambiguous or high-impact area Support the research scientist on the team to apply their work in our Data Center lifecycle and drive business outcome Independently lead cross-functional programs while utilizing external research collaborations Work with your team and cross functional partners to define and influence strategy Drive roadmap creation and execution Collaborate with various functions, drive Applied research & engineering initiatives and have an impact at an organizational level Participate in technical design Measure the impact of your team and set clear expectations and goals Work effectively with cross functional partners and stakeholders to set and achieve optimal outcomes within a global organization Partner with leadership to influence and drive organization design, contribution and prioritization Qualifications PhD in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience 10+ years of experience in applied research or engineering 7+ years of proven experience in recruiting and managing teams spanning from recent PhD graduates to experienced applied researchers, including conducting performance management cycles Proven experience in leading and conducting problem-focused research and effectively implementing the results in a business environment Experience driving internal stakeholders to consensus Subject matter expert in the domain of physics-based modeling & computational engineering coupled with demonstrated knowledge of systems-level engineering Experience in the areas of Data center infrastructure, Sustainability, Energy and/or Data Science
Responsibilities
