Job Description
General Summary:
The Manger of Revenue Cycle manages the revenue cycle operations and works with senior leadership to develop revenue cycle strategies that maximize process efficiency and reimbursement. Lead process improvement across the functional teams that contribute to the revenue cycle, such as claims, billing, and payment posting. This role monitors the effectiveness of activities contributing to the revenue cycle to identify and reduce missed revenue opportunities. Remains knowledgeable of insurance policy and governmental regulations affecting billing practices to ensure organizational compliance. Ensures department productivity and monitoring of work queues. Identifies training gaps and provides coaching to staff. Continuously collaborates with other leaders and vendors on workflow improvements. Reporting to the Director, the Manager, Revenue Cycle serves as a liaison to payors, revenue cycle staff and hospital clinical departments by ensuring effective communication between all parties.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversight of billing and collections functions.
  • Prepares month end reports and assists with budgeting process.
  • Acts as resource for clinical areas pertaining to charge capture, denials, and charge denial management. Analyzes and documents revenue cycle processes.
  • Recognizes and identifies revenue cycle process challenges or opportunities and escalates concerns in a timely manner.
  • Works on denial management and provides department with feedback on common errors that lead to denials, charge corrections or charge deletion.
  • Facilitates development and achievement of professional & personal goals for self and staff as well as continual improvement of staff and vendor performance.
  • The authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write, and administer performance evaluations.
  • Maximizes efficiency of revenue cycle processes; review and interpret operational data and KPIs to assess need for procedural revisions and enhancements; review and approve revenue cycle policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Aligns department goals and manages department resources and budgets to meet Lurie Children’s strategic objectives.
  • Meets regularly with divisional practice managers to ensure expectations are being met.
  • Manages revenue cycle staff, maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Interviews and selects prospective employees.
  • Conducts annual and mid-year performance appraisals and promotes staff development. Coordinates orientation and training of staff.
  • Monitors revenue cycle performance and address any issues to ensure that the activities of the revenue cycle department are meeting department and organizational goals.
  • Provides education, expert guidance, and support to Lurie staff on revenue cycle requirements.
  • Leads and/or participates in project teams as appropriate related to implementation of new revenue cycle initiatives.
  • Other job functions as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum five years in a healthcare revenue cycle, leadership, and supervision of staff.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 coding, medical terminology, third party billing and collections, required
  • Knowledge of: Medicare and Medicaid appeals, Third party contracts, Insurance protocols, delay tactics, systems, and workflows, Federal & State regulations related to denials and appeals
  • Excellent communication and listening skills.
  • EPIC experience preferred.
  • Attention to detail, highly organized and strong process-focused aptitude.
  • Possess strong leadership and organizational skills and can positively influence others.
  • Ability to think creatively, be analytically minded, objective and independent.
  • Problem solving ability and able to handle multiple priorities.
  • Can deal with ambiguity and thrive in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and provide alternative business solutions.
  • Must be able to track, respond, trend, and multitask within the practice management system. Thorough knowledge of patient accounting, third party payer procedures, governmental regulations and managed care contracting to be effectively proactive in the billing and collection process.

Pay Range
$76,960.00-$125,840.00 Salary

The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position. Ranges are regularly reviewed to stay aligned with market conditions.
