ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Participate as an active member of the SHE Team contributing to ensuring the overall delivery of the SHE strategy, advice and support to the site.
• Develops and implements laboratory-specific safety protocols, conducts regular risk assessments and safety audits, and ensures compliance with all relevant occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations
• Leads incident investigations, coordinates corrective actions, and maintains documentation required for regulatory inspections. Promote the implementation of the AZ SHE System to allow the AZ employees to document and trend incidents.
• Lead the local delivery of Global SHE standards and principles pertinent to Laboratory Safety
• Deliver and promote new initiatives and improvement programs in SHE and Facilities Management.
• The role will support in leading a team of SHE Advisors reporting to the Director, SHE.
• Partners closely with both laboratory and facilities teams to support safe operations, actively promotes a culture of wellbeing and environmental responsibility; Develop and maintain key relationships with all science customers and BioHub tenants.
• Performs detailed hazard assessments across all laboratory divisions, oversee safe storage and disposal of chemicals and biological materials, and coordinate the laboratory’s emergency response plans. You will guide staff on best practices for the use of personal protective equipment and safe equipment handling, investigate and report incidents, and continuously identify opportunities for safety improvements
• Participates in global SHE networks to support alignment across all R&D sites.
• Experience with biosafety, chemical safety, and sustainability initiatives will be an asset in this position.
• Key liaison for regulators and external partners, you will help shape the site’s lab safety culture and drive continuous improvement across all aspects of SHE stewardship.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment (or equivalent) qualified health and safety professional, or degree in a science, engineering, sustainability or manufacturing discipline.
• Up to 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Preferred work experience in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment and in developing safe working processes.
• Excellent communication skills and be comfortable supporting stakeholders at all levels.
• Familiarity with laboratory processes and ability to communicate in depth with scientists.
• Ability to work independently and cascade appropriate knowledge to key stakeholders.
• Strong time management and organizational skills and able to meet deadlines.
• Ability to gather data, analyze data, determine options with pros/cons, and recommend path forward.
• Maintains open communication with team members and confidently engages with personnel at all organizational levels.
• Demonstrates ability to approach business problems with logic versus emotion. Can effectively break down problems into smaller parts and is resourceful in identifying what is needed to address the problem. Able to draft recommendations in collaboration with key stakeholders.
• Be comfortable working autonomously and making decisions sometimes with limited information.

INTRODUCTION TO ROLE

The Manager, SHE, sits within our Oncology Research & Development (R&D) group Waltham and reports to the Director, SHE in Waltham. You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of SHE programs and initiatives to all departments located within our Boston R&D campus. You will also be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the SHE standards within our laboratory operations. This site is a combination of Laboratory and Office accommodation with approximately 900 people. You may also be required to travel to other AZ locations as business requires.
