REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Political Science or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in legislative issues, preferably in the energy or utility industry.
- Excellent research and fact-finding abilities.
- Experience with legislative tracking platforms (Quorum, FiscalNote, etc.) preferred.
- Exceptional ability to work effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional writing, listening, and communication skills in order to convey important information to stakeholders.
- Proficient in time management, prioritizing workload, and multitasking while maintaining attention to detail.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook) require.

Responsibilities:
EEI is looking to add a detail-oriented and organized Manager, State Legislative Research, to our External Affairs team. This role will be responsible for monitoring state legislation on topics critical to EEI and its member companies. Tasks for this role will include, but are not limited to, conducting legislative research, identifying trends to support EEI’s advocacy efforts, and serving as a primary contact for state legislation matters with both internal and external stakeholders.
Other important responsibilities of the Manager, State Legislative Research include:
- State Legislative Tracking
- Identify, analyze, and track state legislation while focusing on areas of importance and emerging issue trends.
- Create various materials, such as slide decks and one-pagers, to illustrate legislative tracking and trends.
- Provide subject matter expertise and working knowledge of state legislative practices on current trends for energy-related issues.
- Issue Research Tracking
- Track research conducted by external organizations (trade associations, think tanks, advocacy groups, research firms, etc.) on key issue areas.
- Draft legislative reports and summaries for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Briefing Preparation
- Develop comprehensive briefing materials on state legislation for staff, members, and relevant stakeholders in preparation for external meeting.
- Provide detailed briefings to staff and members on state legislative developments.
- External Affairs Team Support
- Occasionally support the External Affairs team in attending meetings, which may involve up to 10% of out-of-town travel.
