About the Team: The Student Counselling and Mental Health team is part of Victoria University’s Student Services portfolio within the Enterprise and Digital division. Student Services, led by the Chief Student Officer, delivers student-centred, high-quality services across the full student lifecycle, working closely with academic and professional teams across the University. The team plays a vital role in supporting the wellbeing, safety and success of VU’s diverse student community. Working collaboratively with areas such as Student Equity, Safety and Wellbeing, Student Advising and Student Life and Leadership, the team provides accessible, inclusive and responsive mental health support to help students thrive. About the Role: Reporting to the Director, Student Equity, Safety and Wellbeing, this senior leadership role is responsible for leading and managing the Student Counselling and Mental Health team across VU campuses. You will oversee clinical counselling practice, drive the implementation of the Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Plan, manage external partnerships, and provide expert advice on student mental health risk. This role plays a critical part in ensuring high-quality, ethical and responsive mental health services that align with VU’s strategic priorities and legislative requirements. Position Details: Lead, manage and coach a team of professional counsellors to deliver high-quality counselling and mental health services Develop and implement the Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Plan in alignment with university strategy Provide expert assessment and advice regarding students at risk of harm to self or others Oversee clinical governance, quality assurance and compliance with relevant legislation and professional standards Manage relationships with external mental health providers and partners Lead university-wide wellbeing initiatives, mental health promotion and capacity-building programs Manage budgets, staffing and resources to deliver agreed outcomes Provide clinical supervision to counsellors and support counsellors-in-training Salary: HEP 9 $132,942 - $138,314 per annum, plus 17% employer superannuation Employment Type: Full time, Continuing Hours: 36.75 hours per week Location: Footscray Park campus What You’ll Bring to the Role: You are an experienced mental health professional and people leader with strong clinical judgement, excellent stakeholder skills and a passion for student wellbeing.
