This position is part of the APAC Regional Tax team located in Gurgaon, India which involves managing all tax related matters of various American Express legal entities in India including keeping business in compliant with the relevant tax regulations, managing tax litigation, providing strategic tax support with respect to new initiatives, expansion, re-organization and restructuring. This position shall assist the Director-Taxation at Gurgaon Office in ensuring that appropriate tax advice for direct tax matters is received by American Express entities, tax litigation is managed in most efficient manner, and monitoring that all tax compliance obligations are met in an accurate and timely manner. The candidate shall be able to address Tax issues relating to multiple legal entities, undertaking varied business activities - cards business, other financial services, travel services, financial product marketing support services, IT enabled services including data processing and call center, etc. The primary focus will be on the Indian entities, but some support with respect to other markets will occur. Principal Accountabilities Assist Director-Taxation in defining taxation requirements and preparing / reviewing representations/ submissions to Revenue Authorit Efficiently managing tax litigations (corporate tax, transfer pricing and withholding tax) by monitoring day-to-day tax matters) e.g. monitoring notices, attending hearings, filing appeals and submissions, applying for refund, rectification and necessary follow-ups are done in an accurate and timely manner. Advising tax implications on new products/ services developed, new processes to be migrated, all new initiatives by the businesses which have relevance from a tax perspective. Research on tax laws and regulations for given business situations and in connection with tax audits/ tax appellate matters in relation to Income Tax, Transfer Pricing, Withholding Tax, and other taxes as relevant. Liaisoning internally with teams, e.g. Controllership, accounting in obtaining information to satisfy information requests from Revenue authorities. Coordinates the flow of information, etc. to AXP's external tax advisors in obtaining their advisory and compliance support services. Liaise with Indian Revenue Authorities to address queries/ issues, etc. Monitor day-to-day tax matters (including executing refund claims and objections to tax assessments). Assists in preparation / review of Functional Analysis of inter-company transactions for Transfer Pricing purposes. Supports the process of maintenance of business/ transaction related documentation required for Transfer Pricing purposes. Monitors tax accruals and provisions on a periodic basis. Co-ordinate with market finance staff to investigate any inaccuracies. Assists in accurate completion and submission of Reserves and Exposures reports, Sub-profit reports, etc. Reviews taxation publications, decisions and rulings, new and proposed legislation to assess relevance for Amex entities. Provide ad-hoc assistance to the Director - Taxation as and when required in relation to any tax matter. Support tax processes and systems transformation to improve digital and process efficiency. Provide leadership and guidance for any direct reports assigned to this position as well as non-reporting colleagues participating in common initiatives. Perform/support other tax tasks as required from time to time. The preferred candidate should have experience of 8 to 10 years as a tax manager with a large multinational enterprise or with large accounting firms of which 2 years should be in the management role.
