Description:

ACADEMIC/PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Professional accounting designation CPA or CA is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree specializing in accounting, tax, finance or equivalent.

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive income tax experience with exposure to publicly listed companies.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian Income Tax Act, Excise Tax Act.
  • Experience with tax technical writing is essential.
  • Familiarity of IFRS – REALpac and Taxprep experience would be an asset.
  • Detail oriented and responsible individual with a proven track record of taking ownership and follow through to ensure

all loose ends are resolved.

  • Proven organizational and time management skills in dealing with changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • People manager experience would be an asset, as the candidate may be required to manage staff, assist with

fostering a team-oriented working culture and provide mentorship to junior team members.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across all levels within the

organization.

  • Sound business judgment and numerical skills.
  • Computer skills, including advanced Excel, and familiarity with Word and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for timely and accurate preparation and submission of all T2, T3 and T5013 income tax returns and tax working papers.
  • Responsible for annual filing of all corporate legal entities’ declarations and other provincial filing requirements.
  • Collaborate with the finance team with the preparation and review of the legal entity financial statements for each of the Trust’s underlying subsidiaries that support the year-end tax filings (T2, T3 and T5013).
  • Prepare all quarterly and annual working papers as it relates to the REIT’s income tax compliance requirements, including specified investment flow-through (SIFT) trust model and CDS model reporting requirement.
  • Work closely with all stakeholders within the organization to ensure the accounting records for legal entities are

complete and accurate, and proactively identify and analyze transactions to manage tax impacts to the REIT.

  • Liaise with the REIT’s income tax advisors and identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with the REIT’s third-party partners as it relates to income tax and sales tax compliance and audits.
  • Assist with any federal and provincial income tax and GST/HST/QST requests or audits which may occur from time to time.
  • Assist with tax research and prepare technical guidance on new and emerging taxation issues to stakeholders.
  • Assist with special projects periodically as requested by senior management.
