Overview: Manager Transportation Procurement and pre-sales support Oceania We are seeking an experienced transportation procurement and integrated solution professional to expand our land and sea procurement capabilities across Oceania, supporting complex breakbulk, project and heavy-lift cargo movements. This role partners closely with customers, shipowners and trucking providers to develop competitive, safe and reliable transport solutions that support business growth and customer satisfaction. Reporting to the Manager, SCS Operations – Oceania, you’ll play a key role in supporting the delivery of our new global Supply Chain Solutions (SCS) strategy and strengthening the connection between our Ocean, Logistics and SCS business units. This role may be based in any Wallenius Wilhelmsen office/site location within Australia. Job Description What you’ll do Lead sourcing, negotiation and management of inland and ocean freight transportation suppliers (not limited to RoRo) to secure reliable, cost-effective capacity for unique cargo requirements. Develop tailored spot and project-cargo solutions, acting as a key contributor to RFQs and end-to-end logistics proposals. Serve as an intermediary between cargo owners/charterers, shipowners and trucking companies to negotiate and execute complex movements of oversized and heavy breakbulk cargo. Drive supplier relationship management and retention; act as the primary liaison for transportation sourcing matters with solutions development and product management stakeholders. Negotiate freight rates and charter parties with specialized heavy-lift carriers; monitor freight market trends to provide competitive pricing and commercial advice. Plan and optimize transport routes for heavy-lift/project cargo, considering port capabilities, operational constraints and transit risks. Prepare and manage required shipping and customs documentation (e.g., Bills of Lading, permits, insurance and waivers), ensuring adherence to international trade and maritime regulations. Support Customer Growth teams through customer meetings and tender processes; collaborate across sales and operations teams globally, as required. Mentor junior team members and foster a culture of safety, innovation and continuous improvement. Job Requirements What you’ll bring Proven experience in freight brokerage, freight forwarding, ship chartering and/or inland haulage, with a strong focus on breakbulk, heavy-lift and project cargo. Strong understanding of heavy-lift equipment, trailers and vessels, plus relevant maritime regulations/standards (e.g., IMDG, SOLAS). Technical knowledge of heavy-lift operations, including rigging, jacking, cargo securing, and weight/dimension distribution principles. Commercially minded with excellent negotiation, analytical and operational problem-solving skills. Confident stakeholder manager able to navigate and resolve issues in a global matrix organisation. Experience with TMS, ERP and RFQ platforms (preferred). Business-fluent English and strong written/verbal communication skills. Willingness and ability to travel for business. University degree or Diploma in Logistics, Business, Engineering, Operations or Supply Chain Management (professional certifications such as CIPS/APICS are advantageous).
