Description

We are recruiting for a Managing Associate/Legal Director to join our Public Inquiries, Inquests and Public Law team in London. This fee-earning role would best suit a qualified Solicitor with 5+ years PQE, seeking exposure to high‑quality work across statutory and non‑statutory inquiries and disciplinary proceedings, with clear routes for advancement.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

We are looking for:

  • A qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society registered) with 5+ years PQE and the ability to work independently and confidently
  • Experience in police misconduct, disciplinary processes or public inquiry settings; familiarity with serious allegations handling, e.g. gross misconduct, appeals, judicial review
  • Knowledge of Police Conduct Regulations essential
  • Demonstrable background in Police misconduct and regulatory advice work
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills, with excellent commercial awareness
  • Experience in business development or client relationship management, ideally in the public or emergency services sectors
  • A proactive, forward-thinking team-player who enriches our collaborative culture and supports the development of junior colleagues
Responsibilities
  • Support statutory and non‑statutory public inquiries and police misconduct proceedings, acting as a solicitor advisor to inquiry panels and disciplinary hearings, including accelerated misconduct hearings and appeals
  • Undertake internal investigations, independent reviews, and provide legal advice to inquiry teams, professional standards departments, Appropriate Authorities, core participants, witnesses, and document providers
  • Lead complex, large-scale document-heavy review exercises, disclosure and e‑disclosure production and information management processes
  • Plan, define, and implement strategies to deliver results across multi-disciplinary legal or investigative environments, including coordinating evidence collection and witness preparation
  • Provide clear, detailed instructions to witnesses and support them in advance of oral evidence
  • Supervise team members, working collaboratively to nurture junior members’ development
  • Operate flexibly across multiple workstreams, delegating tasks effectively, driving efficiency, and maximising resources
  • Advise upon and manage a case load of police misconduct files across the broad spectrum of legal work concerning professional standards work; to Include drafting allegations (e.g. Regulation 30 notices), responses (Regulation 31), and support clients on evidential strategy, disclosure/redactions, and hearing preparations
  • Prepare and draft misconduct advice for senior clients, attend misconduct hearings, and undertake advocacy when appropriate
  • To assist in the supervision of staff in the handling of their own case files and in the provision of general advice to officers and staff on a range of legal misconduct issues
  • Actively take responsibility for training and developing members of the team in the areas of Police Misconduct and Regulatory matters
