BACKGROUND:

Established in 1976, the Kelowna Community Music School (KCMS) has been a pillar of music education and community arts in the Okanagan for fifty years. With nearly 30 faculty members and hundreds of students, we are a nonprofit school dedicated to providing accessible, high-quality musical instruction that fosters the growth of our music community. KCMS is a member of the BC Association of Community Music Schools and is a registered non-profit charitable society.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Managing Director will act as the chief spokesperson and leader for the organization. This role encompasses overseeing all executive functions at KCMS, including managing finances and administration functions, fundraising, marketing, communications, and community engagement. In partnership with the Artistic Director, the Managing Director will develop, implement, and monitor strategies that align with the organization’s objectives and long-term plans. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven leadership experience in non-profit, arts, or educational management (minimum 5 years).
  • Demonstrated success in operational turnaround, fundraising, or strategic change management.
  • Strong financial literacy with experience in budgeting, reporting, and grant writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in various technology platforms and school management systems.
  • A post-secondary degree or equivalent experience in business, nonprofit management, or arts administration.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, database software, and relevant AI supports.
  • Ability to work independently and in a timely manner.
