Description

The St. Joseph News-Press, a trusted community newspaper serving northwest Missouri, is seeking an experienced Managing Editor to help lead our newsroom and guide daily news operations across print, digital, and multimedia platforms. This is a hands-on leadership role for a strong editor and newsroom manager who values accuracy, integrity, teamwork, and community-focused journalism. To best acquaint you with our benefits, please visit our benefit hub located at https://flimp.live/MyNewsPressBenefits [https://flimp.live/MyNewsPressBenefits] What You’ll Do * Help oversee daily newsroom operations and workflows to ensure timely, accurate, and impactful coverage * Lead, mentor, and support the newsroom staff * Edit and review stories and multimedia content for clarity, accuracy, and adherence to journalistic standards * Coordinate editorial planning and contribute to the newsroom’s editorial calendar * Collaborate with digital, broadcast, and social media teams to deliver cohesive cross-platform coverage * Help develop and implement editorial policies, procedures, and best practices * Make sound editorial decisions in fast-paced, deadline-driven situations * Build and maintain relationships with community leaders and external partners What We’re Looking For * Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred * Experience in a senior or supervisory editorial role preferred * Experience in a multimedia newsroom environment is a plus * Strong leadership and team-management skills * Excellent editorial judgment and attention to detail * Superior writing, editing, and communication skills * Comfort working under pressure and managing multiple deadlines * Commitment to journalistic ethics, fairness, and accuracy Work Environment & Requirements * On-site position based in St. Joseph, Missouri * Full-time (40 hours per week) with flexibility for nights and weekends as needed * Ability to pass required drug screening and background checks * Must possess a driver’s license, adequate vehicle insurance and an acceptable driving record Why Join the St. Joseph News-Press The News-Press is committed to delivering trusted local journalism that matters.
