POSITION OVERVIEW

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to independently perform detailed engineering surveys, review assessments and assists in performing technical review, planning, and directing the enforcement of laws and regulations to provide safe and sanitary conditions for Manufactured & Modular Homes, Mobile Structures, Manufactured Home Communities. Conducts non-routine investigations in response to complaints, contamination or illness.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college with a bachelor’s degree in engineering and coursework in sanitary, public health or environmental engineering.
  • Requires two (2) years professional experience in the practice of environmental engineering, sanitary engineering, or public health engineering.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two (2) years of experience conducting detailed on-site professional environmental engineering investigations and studies for general engineering program activities.
  • Two (2) years of experience preparing detailed reports on investigation findings, sample reports or corrective action.
  • Two (2) years of experience performing reviews of licensure applications.
  • Two (2) years of experience in environmental field sampling equipment and testing techniques.
  • Two (2) years of experience responding to routine public inquiries by phone, email or mail regarding rules and regulations.
  • Two (2) years of work experience using Microsoft software products including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc.
Responsibilities
  • Under direction, completes reviews of engineering plans associated with manufactured home communities.
  • Prepares detailed technical reports of assessment, inspections, and investigations.
  • Assists with review of licensure applications.
  • Participates in conferences with regulated entities and the general public explaining statutory requirements and regulatory compliance.
  • Attends and completes mandatory knowledge-based and practical training required by the Office of Health Protection standard operating procedures and program requirements.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
