JOB SUMMARY

R. W. Wheaton Company — Manufacturing Coordinator
About Us
Founded in 1916, R. W. Wheaton Company provides precision machining and metal castings, delivering turnkey manufacturing by combining in‑house capabilities with trusted subcontractors for secondary services (welding, plating, painting, heat treat, sandblast).
Position Summary
We are seeking an organized Manufacturing Coordinator to manage RFQs, support estimating, and track job progress across both machining and casting operations and external vendors. The role balances foundry and CNC machining workflows and offers opportunity to cross into hands‑on work (CNC/CAM programming, 3D printing/additive).
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and manage RFQs; capture specifications, tolerances, lead times, and finishing requirements for both cast and machined components.
- Coordinate with internal machining, foundry, engineering, quality, and subcontractors to obtain and compile quotes for tooling, material, machining time, melt, finishing, and secondary services.
- Assist in preparing customer quotations that accurately reflect casting and machining costs, labor, and subcontracted processes.
- Track job status from order entry to delivery; update schedules, monitor milestones, and ensure on‑time completion across internal departments and vendors.
- Maintain job records in ERP/MRP; generate status reports and escalate risks or delays.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T, tolerances, surface finish symbols, and BOMs to verify manufacturability and quoting accuracy.
- Communicate proactively with customers, vendors, and shop personnel; visit production floor and vendor sites to resolve issues.
- Support continuous improvement and cross‑training into hands‑on tasks such as CNC/CAM programming and additive manufacturing as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Able to read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T, tolerances, and BOMs.
- Practical understanding of both machining (CNC workflows, fixturing, cycle times) and casting/foundry processes (pattern/tooling, molding, melt, fettling).
- Strong organization, communication, and multi‑tasking skills.
- Proficient with Excel and comfortable using ERP/MRP systems.
Preferred
- Direct experience with CNC machining and/or foundry/casting operations.
- Familiarity with subcontracted secondary processes (welding, plating, heat treat, painting, sandblasting).
- Estimating experience and/or training.
- Interest or experience in CNC programming/CAM and additive manufacturing/3D printing.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing technology, engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Working Conditions
- Full‑time, on‑site role with regular production‑floor and vendor visits.
- Occasional lifting and walking in production areas.
- Opportunities for cross‑training into hands‑on technical roles.
