POSITION OVERVIEW

Sentech Architectural Systems is an Austin-based specialty structural glass design, engineering and manufacturing company that serves the needs of progressive architecture and building industry professionals on some of the most unique and challenging structural glass projects in the world.
We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Designer, with experience in developing and implementing manufacturing plans, processes and tools to support efficient production of custom glass enclosures and architectural systems.
The ideal candidate is a quick learner, and can quickly become familiar with the work processes, standards of practice, and design technology used in engineering our structures. This is a dynamic, challenging opportunity to work cross-functionally across design and manufacturing to optimize part fabrication, streamline production workflows and prepare shipping and logistics plans, ensure quality, cost and schedule goals are met.
You should be a self-motivated professional with 10+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing and design. This is a full-time, onsite position with ample room for learning, development and professional growth for those who demonstrate the desire and ability to work hard, adapt and learn the complexities involved in the structural glass industry and custom fabrication.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, production planning, or a related field in a custom or project-based manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling (Creo preferred) and generating manufacturing drawings
  • Experience preparing CNC machining programs and working with steel fabrication equipment (e.g., FICEP, mills)
  • Experience working cross-functionally with manufacturing, design, engineering, procurement and project management
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixturing
  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Must work exceptionally well in a team environment

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in architectural glass, metal fabrication, or building products industries
  • Familiarity with DFx principles and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Practical knowledge of logistics and crating large, custom products

Responsibilities

Checklist Review

  • Generate checklists at the time drawings are released for NAMI QC records and project progress tracking

Ship Lists

  • Handle updates and revisions of Ship Lists as requested by the Shipping Department
  • Solicit feedback from Project Management and ensure PM direction/input is implemented for all relevant shipping events

Cut Lists

  • Responsible for ensuring all cut lists include all cut parts from all raw material
  • Prepare, check and ensure accuracy on one comprehensive list per project with all packages

Manufacturing Plans

  • Responsible for generating manufacturing plans and identifying materials required to determine shop processes for efficiency, while keeping cost and shop capacity in mind

3D Models for CNC Mills

  • Export 3D models for all parts being machined in advance of the parts and drawings being needed at the machine center

3D Models for FICEP

  • Coordinate program needs with machinists to ensure efficiency on steel projects

Tooling & Fixturing for Production

  • Identify the tooling and fixturing needed for production
  • Manage and maintain standard tooling inventory
  • Coordinate new tooling requirements with Procurement
  • Design and detail manufacturing fixtures (i.e. create models and programs and request materials for specialty fixtures to be made to produce parts
  • Communicate ideas with Project Management, Production Management and Design Management to get cohesive buy-in from team on best methods to fixture and produce

Shipping Crate Design & Layout

  • Design crates, layout materials within crates, layout crates on truck, and provide cut lists for materials needed to build crates
  • Coordinate with Construction Executive for complex project needs

Project Shipping Layouts – Trucks

  • Work closely with Shipping & Logistics Coordinator to plan and layout based on project needs

DFx Design Review

  • Review design for manufacturability, assembly, cost, quality and logistics prior to release for manufacturing
