JOB SUMMARY:

The Manufacturing Engineer will design, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes. Their primary goal is to ensure that the production of automotive parts is efficient, cost-effective, and of high quality.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Years of Experience: 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering or a related field is required, with a significant portion of that in the automotive industry.
  • Manufacturing Process Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes, such as machining, stamping, welding, assembly, and automation, particularly as they relate to automotive parts.
  • Automotive Industry Expertise: Experience working specifically in automotive parts manufacturing is highly preferred, as it provides familiarity with industry-specific processes, materials, and quality standards.
  • Tooling and Equipment: Expertise in the selection, design, and maintenance of manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and equipment.
  • CAD Software: Proficiency in using computer-aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CATIA for designing and modifying production processes and equipment.
  • Simulation and Analysis Tools: Experience with simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, MATLAB) for process modeling, finite element analysis (FEA), and other engineering analyses.
  • Decision-Making: Ability to make informed decisions quickly, particularly in high-pressure situations where production timelines and quality are at stake.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members, senior management, suppliers, and customers.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex manufacturing issues, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail, especially when designing processes and inspecting work to ensure quality and precision.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and Implementation: Develop, design, and implement manufacturing processes for new products or components. This includes selecting appropriate tools, machinery, and technology.
  • Optimization: Continuously analyze and improve existing manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
  • Implementation: Apply lean manufacturing principles to streamline production processes, eliminate inefficiencies, and enhance productivity.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Manage the introduction of new products into the manufacturing process, including planning, coordinating resources, and overseeing timelines.
  • Equipment Installation: Oversee the installation and commissioning of new machinery and equipment, ensuring it meets production requirements and safety standards.
  • Team Coordination: Work closely with design engineers, production teams, quality control, and supply chain departments to ensure smooth project execution and process integration.
  • Vendor Management: Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to ensure that materials, tools, and equipment meet the required specifications and quality standards. Work with vendor timelines for equipment build through regular meetings, both remote and onsite. Validation at supplier (FAT) & validation at manufacturing location (SAT) to meet APQP requirements. Understand capabilities, and limitations of each vendor in order to guide best in class equipment builds by commodity.
  • Compliance: Ensure that manufacturing processes comply with industry standards, company quality guidelines, and customer requirements.
  • Problem-Solving: Identify and troubleshoot production issues related to quality. Implement corrective actions and preventive measures to address any quality concerns.
  • Process Validation: Oversee the validation of new processes and equipment to ensure they meet performance criteria. This may involve conducting tests, analyzing data, and making adjustments as needed.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Perform root cause analysis on defects or production failures and implement solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Efficiency Improvements: Identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing costs without compromising quality, such as through material optimization, process automation, or energy conservation.
  • Budget Management: Monitor project budgets and manage costs effectively, ensuring that projects are completed within financial constraints. Assists with estimate of capital/tooling cost for new customer quotes specific to equipment & automation.
  • Automation and Robotics: Lead the integration of advanced manufacturing technologies, such as automation, robotics, and Industry 4.0 solutions, to enhance production efficiency. Development of Automation opportunities to reduce labor.
  • Tooling and Equipment: Oversee the design and selection of tooling, fixtures, and equipment to support efficient production processes.
