Overview:
CAES by Honeywell is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for manufacturing related activities and be responsible for supporting Operations in a fast-paced work environment and providing engineering guidance on design solutions that will help meet our customer needs. You will work on programs and prototype hardware for aerospace and defense applications. The type of hardware produced at the CAES Woburn, MA location is often complex, containing Hybrid/Multi-chip modules, circuit card assemblies (CCAs), cables/harnesses, and higher-level system assemblies. This job will currently have a high emphasis on microelectronics.
Responsibilities:
Typical responsibilities include:
- Supporting the production function on technical issues that arise
- Implementation of new products and processes
- Improving production flow and optimization of all assembly equipment and facilities
- Creating and maintaining process documentation
- Inspecting and assessing defective hardware
- Maintaining production fixtures and tools.
Additional Details of the duties and responsibilities include:
- Establishes and maintains production routings and detailed assembly work instructions to meet all requirements established on engineering drawings, customer requirements, and Military/Industry standards such as MIL-STD-883, MIL-PRF-38534, IPC-J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, and IPC-A-620 as applicable.
- Assisting with high visibility manufacturing efforts, including formal cost/schedule responsibilities and manufacturing readiness reviews, which may include direct customer interface and work on bids and proposals. Prepares estimates of tooling requirements and of fabrication, assembly, integration, test, and other manufacturing labor content by analyzing drawings, models, sketches, or engineering descriptions.
- Support personnel in the day-to-day execution of the manufacturing tasks. Investigate, analyze, prevent, and solve technical problems.
- Practices continuous improvement methodologies including lean manufacturing, root cause problem solving, value stream mapping, etc. to improve production efficiencies and key performance metrics.
- Supports production by resolving technical issues with engineering and interfacing with design engineers to ensure hardware is producible and considers Design for Manufacturability guidelines, PFMEA.
- Designing and developing manufacturing and engineering tools, strategies, and systems, such as fixtures, materials, design, process problem evaluations and solutions.
- Prepares estimates of tooling requirements and of fabrication, assembly, integration, test, and other manufacturing labor content by analyzing drawings, models, sketches, or engineering descriptions.
- Assists/Leads in equipment and production floor layout activities to promote an efficient flow of product and minimize production lead times through various assembly operations.
- Assists in capital equipment requirements planning, develops ROI analysis reports, prepares capital equipment requests, and documents/maintains equipment operating procedures.
- Requires the application of engineering standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
- Works under general direction and applies knowledge and experience to generate creative solutions. May be assigned the engineering responsibility for a project or part of a project depending upon size, scope and complexity.
- Assists in the monitoring of daily production activities and recommends/implements product and/or process improvements to enhance the efficiency of operations.
- Occasional travel as needed, up to 10%.
