The manufacturing engineer will support the shop floor. They will ensure that design standards are being met. They will practice cost and productivity improvements. Finally, they will coordinate and exercise functional authority for planning, organizational, control, integration, and completion of projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide technical support to manufacturing departments. Ensure that production assembly and test methods are optimized and are consistent in meeting our cost targets. Develop assembly and detail tooling drawings, floor layouts, and manufacturing cells. Check drawings and deign work as needed. Assist Materials Department in the selection of vendors. Establish product acceptance criteria through preproduction runs. Work with vendors to ensure the most economical manufacturing processes and tooling. Assist the Quality Department in the development of procedures and work instructions. Support all lean activities in both Birmingham, AL and Bethlehem, PA. Analyze and evaluate current processes, identify opportunities for improvement and develop and execute improvement plans. Lead cross-functional teams in process improvement projects, including facilitating meetings/workshops and communicating project updates. Train and coach employees on CI methodologies, tools. and techniques. Ensure that all projects and initiatives are aligned with organizational goals and objectives. Track and report on the progress of CI initiatives, including identifying and addressing any barriers to success. Collaborate with key stakeholders to drive cultural change and create a CI mindset throughout the organization. Skills and Attributes Ability to apply principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism such as formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc. in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determinations of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation, techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. Knowledge of design software, database software, MS windows, and MS Word and Excel. Able to read, write and comprehend English. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Blueprint interpretation. Geometric dimensioning and tolerance is required. Familiar with computer-based system operation. Knowledge of APQP, manufacturing and quality processes and capabilities. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or managers, client, customers, and the general public. Self-starter and Motivator: Able to develop effective relationships with distributors, regional sales managers, and customers. Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive and negative situations. Listens and gets clarification. Responds well to questions. Participates in meetings. Writes clearly and informatively. Presents numerical data effectively. Able to read and interpret written information. Six sigma black belt Be able to create a value stream map Requirements Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Engineering required, Mechanical or Manufacturing Technology degree preferred. 5-7 years prior Manufacturing Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment a plus. At least 5 years of experience in a similar role with a proven history of applying Lean & implementing CI initiatives. Strong knowledge of Lean methodologies and tool sets such as 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, or Shopfloor Management. Good SAP knowledge. Preferred skills include: Proven Project Management experience, PM certification such as PMP or Prince2 is a plus. Light 2D CAD knowledge is a plus. Experience as a Manufacturing/Production Engineer is a plus. Experience in factory planning and logistics is a plus.
