POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Manufacturing Engineer/ Drafter will create technical drawings and documentation for manufacturing processes, ensuring products are designed and built according to specifications. This role combines design and engineering principles to develop detailed plans for manufacturing, utilizing CAD software (SolidWorks) to create models and blueprints. Reporting to the Engineering Manager and collaborates across production, sales, and management teams to drive operational efficiency, address quality issues, support continuous improvement, and broaden the company’s production capabilities.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Applied Sciences, or equivalent technical disciplines
  • 5 years of experience in manufacturing involving metalworking or CNC machining methods
  • Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills; willingness and confidence to take hands-on action on the production floor when required.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform duties without day-to-day oversight, and make logical, data-driven decisions independently
  • Experienced in the interpretation of technical drawings and the application of GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office, solid modeling and drafting using Solidworks software
  • Familiarity with commonly used measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and indicators

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline
  • Experience in the design or manufacture of firearms or related components
  • Lean certification or experience
  • Experience with CMM (coordinate measuring machine) inspection

Responsibilities
  • Generate manufacturing and customer drawings, including part and assembly drawings, using SolidWorks software
  • Review and approve manufacturing drawings for new or revised product designs and manage the control and release of Engineering documentation.
  • Work with programmers and machinists to develop plans to manufacture parts in an efficient and repeatable fashion, supporting the team with organized tracking of the entire manufacturing pathway
  • Support for manufacturing operations through direct hands-on troubleshooting and also implement machine/process improvements on existing machineryResponsible for processing parts from start to finish. The engineer will quote, develop methods of manufacturing, ensure quality, verify delivery, and analyze the efficiency of all processes involved.


    • Coordinate with the Engineering and Quality Managers to define inspection plans and to respond to systematic manufacturing issues that arise, with the goal of minimizing both non-conformance and QC burden. Analyze process capability data to justify reductions or increases to inspection frequency, in conjunction with the Quality team.

    • Guide the specification and design of special tooling, fixturing, and gauging while considering budgetary constraints, efficiency, ease of use, standardization, and ergonomics.
    • Update Engineering Best Practices as required to improve the accuracy and consistency of information that is used for manufacturing operations.
    • Own the sustainment of existing products and processes, continuous improvement initiatives, and Lean Manufacturing efforts. Provide the Production team with the resources required to maintain workspaces in accordance with 5S principles.
    • Become intimately familiar with the company’s products and processes to provide technical support, training, and guidance to the Engineering and Production teams. Oversee the creation of SOPs and work instructions to aid in the training of staff and to standardize work that is being performed.
    • Digest customer requirements and feedback to create manufacturing production plans that aim to simultaneously preserve the company’s standard work and satisfy the customer. Occasionally interface directly with the customer to ensure accurate communication of technical details.
    • Communicate with vendors to maintain delivery of quality materials and services.
