OVERVIEW

The Manufacturing Engineer - is responsible for the overall improving design of components manufactured and assembled with respect to ease of manufacturing and assembly of those components by considering manufacturing or assembly time, material cost, availability of material or purchased component as well as Continuous improvement programs to increase manufacturing efficiency and reduce cost.

EXPERIENCE

  • College or University Degree relating to Manufacturing Engineering
  • Tool and Die experience recommended.
  • 10 years hands on experience in manufacturing or assembly
  • Effective use of Autodesk Inventor and Mechanical Desktop as a design tool.
  • Ability to create BOM, and complete mechanical drawings that can be issued for production.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints for large, complicated assemblies.

Responsibilities:

  • Extensive Manufacturing and Assembly experience within a fast-paced Manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of manufacturing capabilities of Samco’s fabrication equipment (Lasers, Punch presses, Bend presses, Welding, Lathes, milling machines, Boring mills, Wire EDM, 3D printing and our engraving capabilities.
  • Provide input or recommendation to existing processes and procedures from DFMA perspective (ease of manufacturing, ease of assembly, quality, availability, cost)
  • Ability to design required new parts or to modify existing parts to satisfy process requirements by implementing standard ECR procedure sometimes in very urgent manner and under pressure.
  • Upload changes in design to the vault, once the new design is tested and it works, preferably before the machine gets shipped to the customer.
  • Understanding of roll forming equipment and processes -mainly roll forming, punching, cooling, material handling -like stacking or bundling.
  • Understand SOO (sequence of operations) for each machine where his/her input or help is needed.
  • Working closely with assembly and testing team during assembly and testing, to help identify issues, find cause and find solution to the problem, or just to improve the design or process.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving with “Can-Do” attitude.
  • Seek out areas of improvement, and offer input on Continuous Improvement to the Manager
  • Establish and nurture effective communication with Production Supervisors in all departments on the floor and in Engineering.
  • Employ a positive and sustained presence on the shop floor.
  • Attend Engineering Milestones meetings (M4 and M5) to get familiar with lines requirements and provide input on designs from DFMA perspective.
  • Ability to navigate difficult situations and stay calm in times when changes need to be made in a hurry and everybody is under lots of pressure (rare, but it does happen).
  • Adhere to all company rules and regulations as outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Follow departmental processes required by ISO and actively participate in recommending improvements.
  • Follow all plant safety rules and regulations.
  • Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act and policies as outlined in the Company Health and Safety manual to prevent workplace injuries including using personal protective equipment (PPE)
