Job Description
Location: White, Georgia
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Job Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer will develop and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards. Engineer will respond to manufacturing issues and concerns to ensure products meet design specifications while achieving customer schedules.

Essential Functions (Job Duties and Responsibilities):

  • Apply lean and continuous improvement methodology to eliminate waste in manufacturing processes, improve first pass quality, and increase cost competitiveness
  • Create and maintain standard work and work content charts
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality control sheets
  • Create and maintain manufacturing routings, including set-up and cycle times
  • Design, build, test, and iterate rapid equipment prototypes to support robust fabrication and assembly processes
  • Procure third party tools and equipment to simplify or enhance manufacturing operations
  • Develop and maintain equipment documentation including Lock Out Tag Out, preventative maintenance SOPs, spare parts list, and operating procedures
  • Train manufacturing teams on new procedures and equipment
  • Investigate and analyze manufacturing problems to determine root cause(s) and implement corrective actions in a timely manner
  • Identify product issues and/or propose product improvements utilizing knowledge of process and fixture best practices, Design for Manufacturability (DFM) techniques, fabrication processes, equipment capabilities, assembly methodology, and quality control standards
  • Perform engineering activities in compliance with established company and manufacturing standards, engineering principles, customer requirements, and related specifications
  • Assist in creating, implementing, and monitoring key performance indicators and metrics

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or similar; or equivalent related work experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a metal manufacturing, assembly, or equivalent related work experience
  • Experience designing with SolidWorks

Knowledge-Skills-Abilities (Competencies):

  • Experienced in project management techniques
  • Knowledge of blueprints, welding symbols, material properties and equipment for metal manufacturing (laser cutting, bending, welding, powder coating etc.)
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science/technology including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of manufactured parts
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and technical troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, maintenance, and repair
  • Experience with Lock Out / Tag Out and safe equipment design
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and standards involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
  • Practical experience with root cause analysis, process optimization, and standard work documentation
  • Solid understanding of Lean principles, Kaizen, and waste reduction techniques
  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills with a focus on working effectively with tradespeople and maintenance personnel
  • Professional and courteous in all verbal and written communications with co-workers, vendors, supervisors, and customers
  • Proficient in MS Office package

The employee will be working in a warehouse/manufacturing environment. The work environment and physical requirements described below are representative of those the employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Employee will regularly be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Employee will regularly be required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, balance, and/or climb
  • Employee will regularly be required to use hands and fingers, and handle objects
  • Employee will regularly be required to sit and reach with hands and arms
  • Employee will regularly be required to do repetitive tasks with few breaks
  • Employee will sometimes be exposed to extreme temperatures; cold temperatures below 40 degrees and hot temperatures over 80 degrees. Proper clothing will be required for all weather types
