Description Summary: Support a major spring/summer project focused on developing a complete parts management system for Cooper Splicers. Provide interns with hands-on exposure to mechanical systems, drafting, technical writing, and asset organization. Improve efficiency and accuracy of parts tracking and maintenance processes within the department. Objectives: Provide hands-on engineering experience in parts management and equipment maintenance. Teach interns to read and update technical drawings and manuals. Develop intern proficiency with Asset Essentials software. Build foundational mechanical understanding of Cooper Splicer equipment. Strengthen project planning and technical documentation skills. Primary Responsibilities: Create part numbers and link them to schematics. Establish a structured system for organizing and locating parts. Use Asset Essentials software for parts and asset management. Update machine manuals and technical documents. Assist maintenance team with equipment fundamentals. This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Tools/Software They Will Use: Asset Essentials CAD tools Basic hand tools Technical manuals and machine drawings Learning Outcomes Create and structure technical part numbering systems Update and interpret machine drawings Navigate and use Asset Essentials software Understand foundational maintenance of Cooper Splicers Participate in organized project planning and workflow development Requirements · Preferred mechanical engineering, drafting, manufacturing, or related field students. · Technical drafting & CAD experience · Ability to read schematics and machine drawings · Must have high school diploma. · Must have completed at least one year of study at a four-year accredited college or university · Must be able to commute to Newport, NC for the duration of the internship. Temporary Housing is available.
