Description

The Manufacturing Engineering Machining Specialist is responsible for CNC programming, machining process development, tooling and fixturing design, quality validation, and manufacturing documentation for components used in large industrial gas engines. This position provides hands-on technical support, resolves complex production challenges, and drives process improvements to deliver high-quality, cost-effective products in a safe manufacturing environment.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of CNC programming and machining experience in a production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes, fixturing, tooling design, and process optimization.
  • Familiarity with machine automation and robot programming / integration an asset
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, NX, CATIA, or similar).
  • Ability to prove out new CNC programs with machine operators.
  • Strong troubleshooting ability for machining, tooling, and fixturing issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) and functional tolerancing.
  • Familiarity with gage selection, metrology, and inspection methods for both small and large parts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Responsibilities
  • Provide daily technical support to production cells, including CNC programming, machining, tooling, and fixturing issues.
  • Develop, optimize, and implement CNC machine programs using CAD/CAM software.
  • Lead initiatives in scrap reduction, process optimization, and setup/changeover efficiency.
  • Design and improve tooling and fixturing for productivity, cost savings, and quality improvements.
  • Troubleshoot machining processes, resolve quality issues (RCA, 8D, Q-Case), and manage MRB reviews.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), including programming, fixturing, measurement, and First Part Qualification (FPQ).
  • Drive Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives: process flow mapping, cycle time reduction, ERP routing maintenance, and Lean Manufacturing practices.
  • Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Process Change Requests (PCRs) from implementation through tracking.
  • Support CAPEX projects including design, installation, commissioning, and integration into production.
  • Conduct FMEAs (process and machine) and implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Track, analyze, and improve machine OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) by addressing downtime, speed losses, and quality issues.
  • Partner with Area Team Leaders on training, safety, ergonomic improvements, and cell utilization.
  • Promote and sustain 6S / Lean Manufacturing standards in the workplace.
