Job Description

We’re on the lookout for a dynamic and skilled Manufacturing Engineering Specialist to join our team in Ottawa. As a Manufacturing Engineering Specialist, you’ll be at the heart of our mission, responsible for planning, designing, acquiring, commissioning, and supporting facilities and manufacturing processes for programs. Your expertise will not only enhance our manufacturing capabilities but also extend to providing industrial engineering support across departments.

  • Develops and maintains documented time standards
  • Designs layouts for efficient production, material flow and space utilization
  • Initiates and/or implements process improvements
  • Trains Manufacturing personnel in methods and processes
  • Audits Manufacturing Operations for adherence to methods, processes and cost efficient operation
  • Assists in the preparation of operating, tooling and capital equipment budgets
  • Develops and optimizes the methods and operation sequence of Manufacturing to produce a quality product at minimum cost
  • Plans, designs/develops, selects, acquires, commissions, supports facilities, equipment and tools for manufacturing, handling and packaging of new and existing products in Manufacturing Operations
  • Analyzes and reports on the ability to produce new designs
  • Recommends product design changes
  • Provides technical guidance to more junior personnel
  • Assists at design reviews and product discussions, including those with external customers
  • Expands knowledge of latest technologies, products and market trends relevant to area of work
  • Performs other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.
  • Four to five years of relevant experience
  • Experience using a variety of test equipment
  • Knowledge of Engineering Development Framework
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing processes and design for manufacturing and assembly
  • Knowledge of project management principles (e.g. performance measurement metrics)
  • Ability to analyze and interpret technical mechanical drawings
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Familiarity with the following areas is desirable:

  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) system (e.g. UGS NX)
  • Time Studies, Operator Balance charts, Lead Time and Order Policy management, Bill of Material (BOM) manipulation for process optimization, Value Stream Mapping, Statistical Process Control, Lean, 6 Sigma, Tooling and Machinery acquisition
