About the Role
At Clayton Glass, our commitment to operational excellence, safety, and quality is central to everything we do. The Manufacturing Manager [Nottingham Site] is the senior production lead at a designated manufacturing site, holding full accountability for site-level performance across output, safety, quality, cost control, and delivery.
This role acts as the key link between site operations and group-level manufacturing leadership, ensuring strategic objectives are translated into effective, efficient production plans. The Manufacturing Manager [Nottingham Site] leads multi-level teams, drives continuous improvement, and fosters a culture of accountability, safety, and high performance.
Working closely with Production Managers, Production Leads, and support functions including engineering, planning, SHEQ, and HR, the role ensures that the site operates in alignment with business goals while maintaining a strong focus on people development and operational resilience.
Key Responsibilities

Production Leadership

  • Oversee end-to-end production operations, ensuring delivery of output, quality, and cost targets.
  • Lead and manage site-based manufacturing teams, including Production Managers and support staff.
  • Translate business and manufacturing strategies into actionable site-level plans.
  • Set and manage KPIs, production targets, and labour efficiency metrics.
  • Control site-level budgets, workforce planning, and resource allocation.

Operational Excellence

  • Drive a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure operational readiness through skills planning, training, and process development.
  • Escalate site issues to the Head of Manufacturing with solutions-focused insight.
  • Represent site performance at cross-functional and leadership meetings.

Strategic Engagement

  • Act as the senior production contact on site, liaising with engineering, planning, SHEQ, and HR.
  • Support investment planning, technology integration, and local project delivery.
  • Collaborate with central support services to align site operations with group-wide initiatives.

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior production role within manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of production planning, team structures, and site-level KPIs
  • Proven leadership of multi-level teams and cross-functional collaboration
  • Solid understanding of SHEQ, labour planning, and shift operations
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent safety qualification
  • Strong communication, decision-making, and performance management skills
  • Commercially aware, resilient, and hands-on in fast-paced environments
  • Valid UK Driving Licence

Desirable Criteria

  • Diploma in Leadership & Management (e.g. ILM Level 5 or equivalent)
  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt certification
  • Diploma in Manufacturing & Production Management (e.g. IoSCM or similar)
  • Experience managing site-level P&L [Profit & Loss] or contributing to budget planning
  • Exposure to multi-site operations or central support functions
  • Experience in investment projects, change programmes, or tech integration

Additional Information:

  • Location: Clayton Glass Nottingham, Orchard Court, Huthwaite, Sutton-in-Ashfield, NG17 2HU
  • Working Hours / Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday
  • Salary: £53,000 – £57,000 per annum (commensurate with experience and qualifications)
