Description
This is a full-time M-F position on the west side of Indianapolis (address is 413 N Tremont St, Indianapolis, IN 46222). The general pay range is $18-$22/hr. and includes full benefits (below): The Welder fabricates, assembles, and repairs metal components in Goodwill’s Commercial Services manufacturing environment using welding equipment and related tools. The Welder reads and interprets blueprints, follows established specifications, and ensures all welds meet quality and safety standards. The Welder is responsible for preparing materials, performing welding operations, inspecting completed work, and maintaining a clean and safe work area. The Welder collaborates with production team members and communicates effectively to support efficient manufacturing operations. Example Duties and Activities Operates welding equipment (MIG, TIG, stick, or other machines as required) to join, fabricate, or repair metal parts and assemblies. Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, and weld symbols to determine material requirements, measurements, and welding techniques. Prepares materials for welding, including cutting, grinding, drilling, and fitting components. Inspects welds to ensure they meet quality specifications; identifies defects such as porosity, cracks, or incomplete fusion and corrects them as needed. Uses hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment such as grinders, torches, clamps, and measuring devices. Performs routine preventive maintenance on welding equipment and tools to ensure safe and efficient operation. Documents work performed and communicates with supervisors or team members on project status, issues, or required adjustments in workflow. Follows all safety protocols, including wearing proper PPE and adhering to facility, OSHA, and welding safety standards. Required Competencies Degree and Credential Requirements - NONE! Knowledge of Warehouse/Welding Processes – Possesses familiarity with welding technologies; understands material properties, weld symbols, heat control, and fabrication principles. Communication Skills- Gives full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to recognize the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Reads, comprehends, and writes simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in work-related documents Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Safety Awareness- Understands workplace safety procedures, safe equipment operation, and best practices to prevent injuries and maintain a hazard-free environment. Preferred Competencies Certification - Hold a current welding certification or be able to obtain certification before or shortly after employment. Quality Check Standards - Recognizes differences in weld quality, surface finish, and structural integrity; follows inspection guidelines and adheres to rigorous quality expectations.
