Job Description Marae Coordinator - Taurima Waipapa Taumata Rau | The University of Auckland From $77,000 per annum, based on skills and experience The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi 'Ko te amorangi ki mua, ko te hāpai ō ki muri'. We are seeking a Taurima to support the operational and cultural life of Ngā Marae e Rua—Waipapa Marae and Ngā Tauira Marae. This is a hands-on role for someone who understands how to hold the mana of a marae while ensuring everything behind the scenes runs smoothly. You will work across both marae, supporting their use as cultural spaces, community hubs, and venues for University and external kaupapa. You will be responsible for coordinating day-to-day marae operations, supporting pōwhiri and formal occasions, and ensuring tikanga is upheld consistently across all activity. Alongside this, you will manage logistics, bookings, and relationships with manuhiri, tauira, kaimahi, and community stakeholders. Working within the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Māori, you will also contribute to initiatives that support the promotion of tikanga and mātauranga Māori across the University. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week), on a permanent contract. The starting salary range is from $77,000 per annum, based on skills and experience. About you | He kōrero mōu This role is suited to someone with strong grounding in te ao Māori who is equally comfortable working in a practical, organised, and operational environment. You will bring: Strong knowledge of tikanga Māori and confidence in te reo Māori Proven experience working with Māori communities and building trusted relationships The ability to organise and deliver kaupapa from planning through to execution Strong administrative and coordination skills, with attention to detail The ability to manage multiple priorities and work across two marae locations Confidence to work independently and exercise sound judgement This is not an entry-level position.
