At Western, the Student Experience portfolio is organized into three inter-dependent pillars that provide the programmes and supports that inspire Western Students to discover themselves; engage with their communities and thrive as learners. These pillars are: Wellness & Wellbeing (comprised of the following departments: Health & Wellness, Student Support & Case Management and Wellness & Equity Education), Sports & Recreation (comprised of the following departments: Recreation & Active Well-being, Sport and Spirit & Connection), and Leadership & Learning (comprised of the following departments: Academic Support & Engagement and Careers & Experience). • Strong musical ability, demonstrated through proficiency in appropriate instruments or vocal roles
• Effective leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate, inspire, and guide peers
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage rehearsals, performances, and logistics efficiently
• Positive attitude, enthusiasm, and commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and high-performance environment
• Ability to work and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing prioritie

Purpose of Role:
Reporting to the Sports and Recreation department, the Marching Band Lead is responsible for the creative development, implementation, assessment, and management of the Marching Band program within Sports and Recreation Services. As a Marching Band Lead, you will be responsible for monitoring day-to-day band management operations while continually developing strategies to foster a supportive and high-achieving environment for all members, strengthening the band program. Candidates will excel in this role if they possess a dynamic blend of musical expertise, practical leadership, and teaching ability, supporting the development of vocalization, movement, and dance skills among band members.

Responsibilities:

• Organize and conduct warm-up exercises and assist in teaching and delivering the marching and musical curriculum to band members
• Lead the band during rehearsals and performances, setting the standard for discipline, conduct, and musical excellence
• Assist with organizational and administrative tasks, such as equipment setup, inventory, and ensuring rehearsal spaces are clean and organized
• Travel with the band to performances and assist with the organization and transportation of equipment
• Communicate effectively with directors, staff, and band members to ensure smooth operations and clarity of expectations
• Promote band activities on and off campus, helping to build spirit and engagement within the community
• Foster an inclusive, supportive atmosphere where all members feel a sense of belonging and are encouraged to achieve their full potential
