Description

Are you passionate about solving complex engineering challenges in some of the world’s most extreme environments? Join the ABS Harsh Environment Technology Center (HETC) as a Noise and Vibrations Engineer and make a tangible impact on the future of maritime safety and innovation.
In this role, you’ll lead groundbreaking research on structural and machinery vibrations caused by ice interactions, underwater radiated noise, and airborne noise. Your expertise will help shape industry standards and ensure vessels can operate safely and efficiently in the harshest conditions.

Responsibilities

As part of our dynamic team of Naval Architects and Ice Mechanics experts, you’ll:

  • Collaborate on cutting-edge research projects to advance marine noise and vibration analysis.
  • Develop and implement methods for measuring and certifying vessels for underwater radiated noise (URN), airborne noise, and shipboard noise - including during icebreaking operations.
  • Design and execute experiments, both in laboratory settings and at full scale.
  • Contribute to the development of vibration load levels for icebreaker design and draft industry-leading guidance.
  • Occasionally support ABS offices worldwide on similar projects.

You’ll also have access to state-of-the-art research facilities through our partnership with Memorial University, including limited use of their laboratories
