ABOUT CANPAC MARINE SERVICES INC.:

Canpac Marine Services Inc., is based in the Port of Vancouver, Canada and has been providing marine services to inland, coastal, and offshore sectors since 1965. Canpac operates a fleet of specialized vessels ranging from 150t to 3000t conducting material delivery and subsea inspection, repair, maintenance and construction of marine assets from surface to 6,000 meters of water depth.

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Marine Surveyor with specialized expertise in the operation, processing, and interpretation of underwater multibeam sonar data and underwater tracking using Ultra-Short Baseline (USBL) acoustic positioning systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and reporting on hydrographic surveys, inspections, and other underwater mapping projects. This role requires a strong understanding of hydrographic principles, data processing techniques, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics Engineering, Surveying, Oceanography, or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience as a marine surveyor with specific experience in multibeam sonar and USBL tracking.
  • Proven experience operating and processing data from various multibeam sonar systems (e.g. Teledyne, Kongsberg).
  • Proven experience operating and processing data from various USBL tracking systems
  • Strong understanding of hydrographic surveying principles and techniques.
  • Proficiency in hydrographic data processing software (e.g.Hypack).
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations
  • Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Excellent data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage projects effectively.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Certified Hydrographic Surveyor (CHTS) – an asset]
  • Experience with remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) or autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) – an asset
